White Co Justice Center Getting New Perimeter Security Entry System

The White County Justice Center in the final stages of implementing a new keypad entry system.

Captain Nate Theiss said the new security will use work IDs for access while providing live updates of entries.

“It’s a high-end access hardware, software, which our Justice Center is going on 22 years old and some of our keypads are that old,” Theiss said. “So, we’re going to be upgrading to a state of the art.”

Theiss said the entry system also includes a new feature where employees will be able to use their phones for building entry. Theiss said the upgrades focused on perimeter doors will improve accountability and security.

“Say you have an employee that has been let go, it would give you an alert where you have a fired employee that’s trying to make access after termination.” Theiss said. “You can also use your phone’s blue tooth. Just more accountability is what we need and also we just need state of the art security for our Justice Center.”

Theiss said the components are in, so the department is just waiting for an installation date. The $25,000 project is paid through the courtroom security funds, which is money from court costs.

‘”Each case part of the court cost goes to this fund that can only be used for obviously security for the Justice Center or court security related where you have officers needing equipment, metal detectors or wands,” Theiss said.

Theiss said the new system will go with a new body scanner on the way from a separate grant opportunity. Theiss said the need for new security was identified when a door replacement was needed.
