Cookeville Vice-Mayor Laurin Wheaton said that she’s running for re-election because she still has projects she wants to see through over the next four years.
Wheaton said that aside from the aquatic facility, she also wants to see Cookeville get more, higher-paying jobs. She said that she thinks the city is in a place where they can be more selective about the industries that come to the area.
“I want to make sure that we’re finding jobs that are high-paying quality jobs,” Wheaton said. “And another thing that I want to make sure to take care of is affordable housing. I feel like that’s an issue that we’re dealing with and seeing a lot of concern right now there for that. So I want Cookeville to be a place where you can work, and live, and play.”
Wheaton said that one of her biggest takeaways from her first term on council is that she was reminded just how much she loves the city. She said that she loves being a part of serving the community and that if re-elected, she would want to continue working to make Cookeville a place where she, her family, and others will want to stay for a long time.
“When I did this last time, it was kind of a grass-roots effort and it was kind of last-minute,” Wheaton said. “But I have absolutely loved being on city council and being able to serve the city of Cookeville. And now I feel like with those four years of experience with being apart of the projects that we’ve done, being apart of the budget, being apart of the growth and the success of Cookeville, I wanted to continue on with that and I still have a lot to do for the next four years.”
