Obituaries For Wednesday, May 26

Funeral services for Mr. Norman Dewayne Burton, age 63 of Murfreesboro, a native of Sparta, will be conducted 1:00pm Thursday, May 27 from the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home. Burial with military honors by the Veterans’ Honor Guard will follow in Davis Cemetery. He was a 1976 graduate of White County High School. After graduating, he joined the United States Army. At the conclusion of his military career, he returned to Sparta to work at Wal-Mart then as a Federal Marshall before finding his dream job at the United States Post Office in Nashville where he worked for 36 years until retired. He was an active member of Olive Branch Baptist Church in Murfreesboro and a longtime member of a Smyrna bowling team. Norman was a fan of University of Tennessee athletics. Surviving family members include his two sisters Sharon Burton of Sparta and Melody Burton of McMinnville. The family will receive friend Thursday from 11:00am until service time at Hunter Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Mary L. Rasmussen, 78 of Cookeville, will be at 1:00 PM on Thursday May 27 at Crest Lawn Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Crest Lawn Cemetery. Mrs. Rasmussen passed away on Monday, May 24. Mary was loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She loved early morning yard sales, spending time with family, watching birds taking care of flowers and cooking for her family and friends. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Roy Rasmussen, and children, Kathy Presley, Lori (Joe) Elder, Glloria (Carmen) Lorio, Terry Rasmussen, Daniel (Alice) Rasmussen, and David Rasmussen. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Thursday, May 27 at Crest Lawn Funeral Home.

Celebration of Life Services for Mr. Shirlie Alfred Reeder, age 73 of Madison, and formerly of Overton County, will be conducted 11:30 AM Friday, May 28th, from Pasquo Church of Christ in Nashville. Burial will follow in the Veteran’s Cemetery in Nashville. Mr. Reeder passed from this life on Tuesday morning, May 18 from the Alvin C. York VA Medical Center in Murfreesboro. He was born in Overton County on November 23, 1947, to the late Clarvess Franklin and Nellie (Kyle) Reeder. He served his nation as a member of the United States military during the Vietnam War and was a fan of the University of Tennessee athletic programs. Mr. Reeder leaves behind his children, Jongee Arnold, Ashley Reeder, Brent Reeder.

Funeral Services for Thomas Bedford Steward, 79 of Sparta, will be Friday, May 28 at Oak Lawn Funeral Home at 1 PM with Bro. Nick Holman officiating, burial will follow at Old Bon Air Cemetery. Mr. Steward passed away Tuesday, May 25 in Sparta. He was born on November 14, 1941 to the late George and Hattie Mae Steward in Gainesboro. Survivors inculde, daughter, Ramona E. Hunter (James) of Sparta, and son, Dewayne Steward (Janet) of Madison, NC. The family will receive friends on Friday, May 28 at the funeral home from 11 am till the time of service.

Funeral services for Skye Elaine Hawkins, 2 months, will be Friday, May 28 at 2 PM at the Dyer Chapel Hooper Huddleston Horner Funeral Home. Bro. Jim Schultz will officiate. Skye died Saturday, May 22, 2021 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. She was born March 8, 2021 in Cookeville. Skye is survived by parents, Isaiah and Heather Schultz Hawkins of Cookeville; sister, Harmony Hawkins, brother, Taylor Schultz; grandparents: Jim and Jennifer Schultz, Autumn and Jerry Hawkins. The family will receive friends Friday from 12 noon until service time at the funeral home.

Funeral services for Mr. Sammy Ezell Thurman, 89 of Allons, will be held Friday, May 28 at 2 PM from the chapel of the Hall Funeral Home of Livingston with burial to follow in the Hunter Cove cemetery. Mr. Thurman passed way at Tristar Skyline hospital in Nashville on Monday, May 24. Mr. Thurman was a long haul truck driver and also served in the Army. Survivors include his wife, Bobbie Thurman; and sons, Keith (Sherry)Thurman, and Kenny Thurman. The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 27 from 6 PM until 8 PM.

Celebration Of Life Services For Ann Vaden, Age 78, Of Monterey, Tennessee, Will Be Conducted On Friday, May 28, 2021, At 6:00 PM From The Chapel Of Goff Funeral Home. Rev. Richard Harris Will Officiate. Private Inurnment Will Follow At A Later Date In The Welch Memorial Cemetery. Mrs. Vaden Was Born On Monday, January 25, 1943, In Crawford, Tennessee, To The Late Ruben And Maudie Marie Walls Hargis. Mrs. Vaden Passed Away On Monday, May 24, 2021, At The Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Vaden Was A Homemaker, A Loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother, And Great Grandmother. She Was A Member Of Columbia Hill Baptist Church And Loved Her Church Family. She Is Survived By Her Husband Of 60 Years, Morgan “Mert” Vaden Of Monterey, TN; 3 Daughters And 2 Sons-In-Law, Sherri And Alan Wilson Of Monterey, TN, Penny And David Wilson Of Monterey, TN, Sandy VanDeVoorde Of Cookeville. In Lieu Of Flowers, The Family Request Memorial Donations Be Given To The American Cancer Society. The Family Will Receive Friends At Goff Funeral Home On Friday, May 28, 2021, From 4:00 PM Until Time Of Services At 6:00 PM.

Memorial services for David Edward James, age 85 of Cookeville, will be held from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM, Saturday, June 12th, 2021 with Bro. Christian Smith and Katherine Hall officiating at the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Cookeville TN. He passed away Sunday, May 23, 2021. David was born Tuesday, April 14, 1936, Rushford, New York, to the late Paul Harold James and Mary Luckey. David was a truck driver and worked many years over the road. Survived by: Wife – Ethel P. James, Cookeville; Daughter – Denise J. Newberry; Son – Donald E. James. Visitation will be from 12:00 noon to the time of services.
