Obituaries For Wednesday, February 5

Edward Dodson, 84 of Sparta, passed away on Wednesday, February 5, 2020, at NHC Healthcare of Sparta. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time.

Funeral services for Mr. Freeman R. Gooch, age 93 of Sparta will be conducted 11am Thursday, February 6, 2020 from the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home with burial in Spring Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 4-8pm at Hunter Funeral Home. He passed away Sunday, February 2, 2020 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.

Graveside services for James Earl Cox, 84, of Gainesboro, will be held at 1 P.M. on Thursday, February 6, 2020, at the Lynn Cemetery in the Burristown community of Jackson County. He passed away on Tuesday, February 4, 2020, at his residence. He was born July 22, 1935, in Jackson County, to the late John Cox and Nora Cox. He was a sawmill worker, and a member of the Church of Christ. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 11 Brothers and Sisters. Survivors include 5 Nephews: Chris Hamilton of Celina, Jeff Beechboard of Celina, David Boles of Celina, Randy Cox of Celina, and Richard Cox of Gainesboro; 4 Nieces: Elizabeth Beechboard of Celina, Patty Spears of Celina, Donna Beechboard of Tompkinsville, KY, and Betty Cox of Livingston; and Special Caretakers: Sandy Wheet of Celina, Bree Skye Wheet of Celina, Mary Ann Hamilton of Celina, and Robert Spivey of Gainesboro. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 12 Noon until time to leave for the graveside service.

Funeral services for Dr. James ‘Jim’ M. Murchison, age 75 of Cookeville, will be held Thursday, February 6, 2020 at 1:00 pm in the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Rev. Andrew Berg will officiate. Interment will follow in Cookeville City Cemetery. He was born Monday July 17, 1944 in Memphis, TN to the late James M. and Clarice House Murchison. He attended high school in Raleigh, North Carolina and attended Oak Ridge Military Academy (N.C.) before enlisting in the US Army. He served as captain and was a Vietnam War veteran and received The Army Commendation Medal for meritorious service, The Bronze Star Medal for heroism in ground combat and was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received in action, among other recognitions. He earned BS and MS degrees from The American University in Washington, D.C. and a PhD from City University of London. He worked as a systems analyst in various industries. Later in his career he became an associate professor at Columbia (TN) State for 15 years, living in Columbia before moving to Cookeville 16 years ago. His family will receive friends Thursday 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the funeral home.

Funeral services for Glenda Kay Elrod, age 73 of Cookeville will be held Friday, February 7. 2020 beginning at 1:00 PM from the chapel of Crest Lawn Funeral Home with Bro. Mike Adams officiating. Interment will follow in Crest Lawn Memorial Cemetery. She passed from this life Monday, February 3, 2020, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. She was born Saturday, January 4, 1947. She was the daughter of the late Sherman and Estelle (Henry) McCloud. Kay was a loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Sister, and Friend to all who knew her. She was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. Kay is survived by her Husband: Cordell Elrod of Cookeville; 1 Son and Daughter-in-law. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday, February 6, 2020, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

Funeral services for Anna Bell Scott, age 83, of the Double Springs Community, will be held Friday, February 7th, 2020 at 2:00 PM at Presley Funeral Home with Andrew Scott, Randy Bybee, and Ronald Strong officiating. Interment will follow in Double Springs Cemetery. Anna Bell Scott passed away Tuesday, February 4, 2020 at her home in the Double Springs Community. She was born Monday, December 28, 1936 in Cookeville to the late Clyde Cecil Alcorn and Flora Bell Qualls Alcorn. Anna was a member of Pippin Church of Christ and loved the Lord with all her heart, soul, and mind. She worked at the Cookeville Shirt Factory, and was a Certified Nurse Aid at NHC Healthcare in Cookeville. In addition to her parents, Anna Bell Scott was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Scott; grandson, James Kyle Scott; 3 sisters, Dorothy Burris, Joyce Argo, and Janice Allen. She is survived by 3 children, James H. (Sherry) Scott of the Double Springs Community, Marvin E. (Lynne) Scott of Sparta, and Kim Scott of the Double Springs Community; 2 grandsons, Andrew Scott of the Double Springs Community and Paul (Misti) Scott of Sparta; 2 great grandchildren, Jocelyn and Mason Scott of Sparta; several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 6, 2020, 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM and Friday, February 7, 2020, 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM at Presley Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Linda Sue McDaniel, age 75 of Cookeville, will be held Saturday, February 8, 2020 beginning at 10:00 am from the chapel of Crest Lawn Funeral Home with Brother John Herron officiating Interment will follow in Browns Mill Cemetery in Cookeville. She passed from this life Tuesday, February 4, 2020, She was born Monday, August 21, 1944 in Monterey. She was the daughter of the late Roosevelt and Emma (Easter) Stamps. Linda is survived by: 2 Daughters: Linda Shannon, Gina Hawke; 1 Sister: Betty Logsdon; 1 Stepdaughter: Angel Smithers; Several grandchildren ,nieces, nephews, and a great grandchild on the way. Princess Diana her loving dog. In addition to her parents Linda was preceded in death by 1 Daughter: Tammy Hawke, 1 Son: Brian Hawke, and eight brothers and sisters. The family would like to thank caregivers Beverly, Melanie, and Ally for their support during this time. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday, February 7, 2020 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to help with the final expenses.

Funeral services for Mrs. Florence Ray Ann Davis Dunham, age 83 of Sparta, will be conducted 11:00am Saturday, February 8, 2020 from the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home with burial in Lost Creek Cemetery. She passed away Monday morning, February 3, 2020 at her residence. Mrs. Dunham was born June 13, 1936 in the Lost Creek Community of White County to the late Johnny Ray & Lillie Mae Mitchell Davis. She worked at Mallory Timers for nearly 30 years and was a member of Freewill Baptist Church of Sparta. When she had time, she enjoyed visiting friends and family. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her three brothers James Arnold Davis, George Donald Davis and Herbert Paul Davis. Surviving family members include her four children Charles Arnold Dunham, Susan Una Dunham, Greg Noble Dunham and Marsha Dunham Nikahd; Grandchildren: Chad Dunham, Brandy Dunham Titsworth, Hunter Dunham, Chandler Dunham, John Hart, Sarah Hart, Monya Nikahd and Melica Nikahd; Great-grandchildren: Ali Hollandsworth, Colten Dunham, Emma Titsworth, Hudson Titsworth and Wade Dunham. A host of nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Friday from 4-8:00pm at Hunter Funeral Home.

A Celebration of Life service for Mr. Joshua Wayne Trent age 41 of Livingston, will be held for Joshua Wayne Trent on Saturday, February 8, 2020 at 3 PM from the Chapel of the Hall Funeral Home of Livingston. He passed from this life on Wednesday, January 29, 2020 at the Saint Thomas West in Nashville. Personal Info: Mr. Joshua Wayne Trent was born in Kingsport, on August 30, 1978 to Carolyn Carter and the late Wayne Trent. Many, especially his family and friends, loved Josh and that includes his students over the years. Josh was a band teacher and helped lead a lot of children in music. Josh taught for 13 years in Overton, Clay, and Dekalb County. He was the Uniserve Coordinator with TEA in District eight and was an advocator for and helping surrounding county teachers. Survivors:   Mother: Carolyn Carter; 1 Brother: Shane Lavinder; 2 Sisters: Deanna Bishop, Angela Wyman; Special cousin: Preston Light; a host of family and friends also survive. Preceded in death by: His father Wayne Trent. Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, February 8th starting at 1 PM.
