Obituaries For Wednesday, August 21

Funeral service for Bonnie ‘Maxine’ Allen, 86 of Sparta, will be a graveside service conducted at 11am at Oaklawn Cemetery in Sparta, TN on Thursday, August 22, 2019. She passed away on August17th. She was born in Sparta to Homer Kinnard and Elizabeth Johnson on December 28, 1932. She is preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Ceba Ann Kinnard and her husband, William Bryan Allen and two sons, William Bryan and Max Christopher. She is survived by her brother, Stanton Kinnard and four children – Bill Allen and his wife Amy of Atlanta Ga; Martha Allen and her husband, Stan Allen of Atlanta; David Allen and his wife Vonda Allen of Nashville; Beth Williams of Smyrna. Her 6 grandchildren -Ann Allen, Chris Allen, Bonnie Campbell and husband Zach Campbell; Sydney Allen, Jacob Williams, and Claire Allen. Her 2 Great Grandchildren, Reily Cone and Ryker Campbell. Nephew, Stan Kinnard and wife Marcie Kinnard and their three children, Laney, Lilly and Levi. Granny, as she was known to all, had a strong Christian faith, believing in Christ our Lord and walked her life in His footsteps. Her true joy was raising her children, and grandchildren. Her love of family knew no boundaries. She was an accomplished seamstress, a certified elementary school teacher and loved basketball and football. She will be truly missed by all who knew her. Many lives have been touched by her kindness. For any memorial donations, please share in Maxine’s name to St Judes Children Hospital.

Funeral services for Kenneth Lee Ford, 69 of Manchester, formerly of Cookeville, will be Thursday, August 22 at 1 PM from the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston Horner Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Vinson Cemetery in Jackson County. Bro. Larry Self will officiate. Mr. Ford died Monday, August 19, 2019 at his home in Manchester. He was born May 10, 1950 in Putnam County to the late Herbert Ezra and Mary Magdalene Price Ford. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister Edna Pearl Mackie and a brother John Ford. He was a graduate of Cookeville High School. He was a retired set-up man with Fleetguard of Cookeville with 28 years of service. He was a member of the National Guard. He did a lot of maintenance work on the building and property of the Cookeville Rescue Mission. He was also a cattle farmer. He enjoyed working with his horses, helping his neighbors and spending time with family, especially the grandkids. Survivors include wife of 20 years (Married May 8, 1999) Margaret Finn Ford of Manchester, son Kenneth Paul Ford of Livingston, step-daughter Cathy Miller of Manchester, grandchildren: Cayden, Elizabeth and Madison Miller. Family will receive friends Thursday from 11 AM until time of service.

Funeral services for Mrs. Matilda Chaffin Craighead, 81, of Cookeville, TN, will be held at 2 P.M. on Thursday, August 22, 2019, at Anderson – Upper Cumberland Funeral Home in Gainesboro, TN. Burial will follow in the Pharris Cemetery in the McCoinsville community of Jackson County, TN. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 4 P.M. – 8 P.M., and Thursday from 10 A.M. until time of services. She passed away on Monday, August 19, 2019, at Signature Health Care Center in Algood, TN. She was born May 8, 1938, in Jackson County, TN, to the late Norman Chaffin and Hattie Harris Chaffin. On March 28, 1959, she was married to the late Edd Roy Craighead, who passed away November 17, 2000. She worked as a bank teller, and was a member of the Jefferson Avenue Church of Christ.

Memorial services for Murray Robert Antonyshyn, age 93, of Cookeville will be held Thursday, August 22nd, 2019 at 2:00 pm in the chapel of Presley Funeral Home with Pastor Roger Cooper and Steve Sharp officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 22, 2019, 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM at Presley Funeral Home. Mr. Antonyshyn passed away Monday, August 19, 2019 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center in Cookeville, Tennessee. He was born Sunday, February 28, 1926 in Portage La Prarie, Manatoba, Canada. Mr. Antonyshyn was a machinist in California. He owned an art gallery with his late wife Madeleine, in Huntington Beach, California. He retired in Cookeville in 1989.

Funeral services for David Franklin Brock, age 88 of Sparta, will be Friday August 23, 2019 at 12 pm with Bro. Paul Allen officiating. Burial directly to follow at Oaklawn Cemetery. Brock unexpectedly passed away on August 17th. He left behind an adoring family comprised of his wife of 65 years, Laura Mae (Phillips) Brock, his twin daughters Darla and Karla Brock, and son-in-law Eddie Weeks. Brock was born in Spencer on July 22, 1931 to parents William R. Brock and Maggie (Mills) Brock. David is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, James Brock and JR Brock. The Korean War called him to service in January of 1952. He served as a combat engineer with the famed Second “Indianhead” Infantry Division, known as the Tomahawk Warriors, through October 1953. Brock used photographs to chronicle his military experience, and over 200 of his images can be found on the web site of the Tennessee State Library and Archives. He held a number of factory jobs, but completed over 34 years of employment with Mallory Controls. Brock was a longtime member of Findlay Methodist Church. Additional survivors include brother Sammy Brock and sister Geneva Christine Wilson and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Friday August 23, 2019 from 10:30-12 p.m. at Thurman Funeral Home.

Funeral Service for Anthony “Tony” Lorne Savage, 61 of Algood, will be held Friday, August 23, 2019, at 2:00 PM from the chapel of Crest Lawn Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Bethlehem Cemetery in Livingston. Tony passed away on Friday, August 16, 2019, at his home. Tony was born Wednesday, July 16, 1958, in Livingston. He was the son of the late Walter Floyd Savage, Jr., and the late Margaret Frances Alene (Gabbard) Savage. Tony was everyone’s friend and would be known to say” I Love You My Heart and Yea Yea Yea Dat’s Right.” He retired from Tennessee Tech after 27 years. Tony is survived by: 2 Sons: Anthony Jr., and Arron Savage; 9 Siblings: Richard and Kim Savage, Odell Savage and Partner Karen, Thomas and Linda Savage, Troy and Linda Savage, Ann Savage, Robbie and Jerry Hayes, Juanita Cartwright, Vonetta Fairley, and Charletta Varner. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends. In addition to his parents, Tony was preceded in death by Sister, Shirley Patterson. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm on Thursday, August 22, 2019, and again, Friday, August 23, 2019, from 12:00 pm until time of service at Crest Lawn Funeral Home.

A celebration of life for Billy Mann “Bill” Piper, 86 of Cookeville will be held from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Friday, August 23, 2019, at Crest Lawn Funeral Home. He passed away on Saturday, August 17, 2019, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Bill was born February 5, 1933, in Pleasant Shade, Tennessee. He was the son of the late Robert E. Lee Piper and the late Bessie (Sloan) Piper. Bill was a Tennessee Tech and University of Tennessee graduate.

A Funeral Service for John Harvey Roberts Sr. 87, of Sparta, will be held on Saturday August 24, 2019 at 10:00 am at Oak Lawn Funeral Home with burial to follow at Oak Lawn Memorial Cemetery. Mr. Roberts passed away August 19,2019. He passed peacefully at home surrounded by his children. Mr. Roberts was born August 22, 1931, in Sparta to the late Homer Whitley Roberts and Bessie Mary Jane Baker Roberts. He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife of 46 years, Nelda Jean Hickey Roberts; Granddaughter, Danielle Nicole Ransom; Son, Michael Allen Roberts; Brothers, Homer Whitley Jr., Charles Thomas, Wilfred Terry, Herman Clay, Clarence Vaughn, Larry Dean, and Joseph Michael; Sisters, Arrie Mae Jernigan, Hazel Venola Roberts and Wanda Louise McGhee. Survivors include one son John Harvey Roberts Jr. and Wife Ava of Nashville; two daughters Sheryl Ann Ransom and husband Danny of Cookeville, Sharon England of Sparta; Brothers, Homer Ray Roberts and wife Cathie, Fred Rascoe Roberts and wife Bonnie, James Mulcay Roberts and Willard Oliver Roberts; Sisters, Wilma Jeanne Kirby, Opal Virginia Williams, Mary Frances Whitley and husband Harlan; Grandson Daniel Ryan Ransom of Cookeville; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Mr. Roberts was a much beloved educator who influenced the careers of many students during his 34 plus years of teaching. He began his teaching career at Copper Basin High School (Copperhill) in 1958. He went to Troy State College (Troy, Ala) in 1962 to be a principal and teacher. He began teaching 8th grade math at White County Junior High in the fall of 1972 moving to White County High School in the fall of 1978 where he taught Chemistry, Physics and Advance Mathematics until his retirement in 1992. Mr. Roberts attended West Sparta Church of Christ. He was a faithful Christian who loved to send biblical “challenges” to preacher and friend, Derrick Coble and his dear Christian friend Jeff Turner. He served his country in the U.S. Army and was a medic during the Korean War. The family will receive friends Friday August 23, 2019 from 4:00 – 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
