Holly Buttram, Age 55, Of The Cherry Creek Community Of Sparta, Passed Away On Monday, October 21, 2019, At The Standing Stone Care And Rehabilitation Center. Funeral arrangements are incomplete.
Lamont Richard Miller, 85 of Crossville, passed away on Monday, October 21, 2019, at NHC Healthcare of Sparta. Mr. Miller was born on Thursday, February 15, 1934 in Monroe, Michigan, to the late Farris and Edna Westgate Miller. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Pamela Sue Ray of Columbia. Survivors include: Wife- Patricia Ann Powers Miller; Sons – Richard L. Miller and Gregory S. Miller; Daughter- Vicky L. Leng; 13 Grandchildren; 18 Great-Grandchildren. The family is honoring Mr. Miller’s request for cremation. A Memorial Service will be held on a later date.
S.T. Nash age 74, of Baxter, passed away Sunday at his home. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Mr. Nash was born on October 22, 1939 in Putnam County to the late Lilburn and Ella Dunn Nash.
Funeral services for Helen June Burgess, age 80, of Cookeville will be held Wednesday, October 23rd, 2019 at 10:00 am in the Chapel of Presley Funeral Home with Jeremiah Tatum officiating. Entombment will follow in Crest Lawn Mausoleum. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 22, 2019, 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM and Wednesday, October 23, 2019, 9:00 AM – 10:00 AM at Presley Funeral Home. Mrs. Burgess passed away Sunday, October 20, 2019 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center in Cookeville, Tennessee. She was born Tuesday, September 12, 1939 in Baxter, Tennessee to the late Chester Johnson Thomas and Hattie Maloy Allison Thomas. Helen was a member of Willow Ave. Church of Christ. She will long be remembered as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.
A memorial service for David Lee Boles, age 70, of Cookeville will be Wednesday, October 23, 2019 at 5:00pm in the chapel of Presley Funeral Home. Mr. Boles passed away Sunday, October 20, 2019 at Signature Healthcare of Putnam County after a courageous battle with Leukemia and Parkinson’s Disease. He was born Thursday, November 4, 1948 in Algood to the late John D. Boles and Mary Aline Johnson Boles. David was a proud father and grandfather, and loved being surrounded by them. He was a retired truck driver. He was of the Church of Christ faith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, JD Boles. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Lougenia Dian Williams Boles of Cookeville; son, John David Boles and wife Nina of Cookeville; daughter, Angelia Lee Boles McCowan and husband Phillip of Cookeville; granddaughters, Legacy, Legend and Liberty Boles; grandsons, Nicholas (Sydney) McCowan and Matthew McCowan all of Cookeville; great grandsons, Kashton McCowan of Cookeville and Blaise McCowan of Oklahoma City; very special caregiver, Evelyn Ramirez of Cookeville; sister, Betty Jo Oakley of Algood and his nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 4:00pm until service time at the funeral home.
Funeral Services for Clyde Terrell Vaughn, 86, of Walling will be held on Wednesday, October 23, 2019 at 6 pm at Gum Springs Baptist Church in Walling, TN with Bro. Bo Hendrix and Bro. Ron Dyer officiating. Burial will be Thursday, October 24, 2019 at 10 am at Mt. Pisgah Cemetery in Walling, TN. went to be with the Lord Sunday, October 20, 2019 surrounded by family at his home. Mr. Vaughn was born on June 22, 1933, to the late Captain Rex and Beulah Nell White Vaughn in Cookeville. Terrell served in the United States Army. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture from TN Tech. He retired from the United States Postal Service after 37 years. His lifelong passion was farming. Mr. Vaughn developed and patented Vaughn’s Bermuda Grass. One of his greatest accomplishments was being a Bible scholar and sharing his love of the Lord with everyone. He loved his family, Church family, and beloved Sunday School members. Another passion was music; he enjoyed singing the gospel songs at church and visiting the nursing home. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 23, 2019 from 2-6pm at Gum Springs Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family wish donations to be made to Gideons International.

Mrs. Roop passed away at Bethesda Healthcare in Cookeville, TN on October 21, 2019. Mrs. Mary J. Roop was born on December 24, 1939 in Monroe to the late Baslie Smith and Mattie Taylor. She will be greatly missed by many. Survivors: 1 Son: Billy Joe Lee and wife Ruth; 2 Daughters: Cathy G. Smith, Diane Lee; 4 Brothers: Bobby Smith and wife Irene, Austin Smith, Eddie Smith, Dolphus Smith; 6 Grandchildren: Crystal McGraw, Natasha Washington, Corey Phillips, Dillon Garrett, Cole Garrett, Elisha Lee; 6 Great Grandchildren: Kaitlyn, Kyler, Lee, Rose, Colton, Logan; A host of family and friends also survive. Looper Was Born On May 3, 1936, In Overton County, To The Late Joe Sire Looper And Leva Mae Phipps Looper Holman. Rev. Looper Passed Away On Monday, October 21, 2019, At His Home From Declining Health. He Was Retired From Avco/Textron Corporation In Nashville Where He Helped To Construct Airplane Wings. He Was A Minister For 61 Years And Was Ordained On October 8, 1960, By The Eastern Division Of The Stone Association Freewill Baptist Church And Continued To Preach And Share The Gospel Until The Decline In His Health. During Those 61 Years, He Pastored Several Churches Including Mineral Springs Freewill Baptist, Livingston Freewill Baptist, Crossroads Freewill Baptist, Tyler Point Freewill Baptist, Fairview Freewill Baptist, Monterey 2nd Freewill Baptist, Midway Freewill Baptist, Banner Springs Freewill Baptist And Having Pastored Some Of These Twice. He Helped Build The Eastern Division Headquarters Building In Monterey. He Was A Member Of Midway Freewill Baptist Church And A 50 Year Member Of Monterey Masonic Lodge #751. He Was A Loving Pastor, Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather And Friend To All Who Knew Him. He Is Survived By His Wife Of 60 Years, Joanna Bowman Looper Of Monterey; Daughter And Son-In-Law, Sherri Looper Lee / Mike Lee Of Cookeville; Granddaughter, Brittany Lee Turner / Dustin Turner Of Morristown; Grandson, Brandon Lee Of Cookeville; Great Grandchildren, Lakelyn Mackenzie Turner And Canaan Gage Turner Of Morristown; Sisters-In-Law, Helen Joyce Looper Of Cookeville, Lola Dean Bowman Qualls / Charles Qualls Of Battle Creek, MI, Flossie Ledbetter Bowman Of Rickman, Frankie Bowman Moore Ballenger / Phil Ballenger Of Rickman; And A Host Of Nieces And Nephews. She was born October 28, 1953 in Detroit, MI to Joe Lee Brown and the late Frances Sue Byrd Benningfield. Mrs. Brown worked at GE in Louisville for a number of years.
