Obituaries For Tuesday, July 23

Mrs. Candida Leon, age 61 of Cookeville, died Monday morning, July 22nd at her residence. Arrangements for Mrs. Leon are incomplete.

Memorial service with military honors for William Henry “BUCK” Herald, 85 of Baxter, will be Tuesday, July 23 at 6 PM from the Baxter Chapel of Hooper Huddleston Horner Funeral Home. A private family interment will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery at a later date. Bro. Donnie Agee will officiate. Mr. Herald died Sunday, July 21, 2019 at his home in Baxter. He was born November 5, 1933 in DeKalb County to the late Solon and Alga Butts Herald. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict serving 6 years. He served on the USS Hornet. He was a retired foreman in pipeline construction. Survivors include sister Frances O’Neil Hodges of Oak Ridge, brother and sister-in-law Eddie Ray and Sue Herald of Cookeville, nieces and nephews: Tammy Dronebarger, Grace Hodges, Mary Spahn and Jimmy Hodges. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 4 PM until service time. Memorial contributions may be made to the Odd Fellows Cemetery Fund c/o Jim Sherrell, P.O. Box 275, Baxter, TN 38544.

Funeral service for Jesse Eugene “Gene” Baker, age 81 of Sparta, will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, July 25, 2019 at the West Sparta Church of Christ with Derrick Cobble officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery. Gene passed away Monday, July 22, 2019 at the Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was born November 28, 1937 in Spencer to the late Callie and Willie Belle Hutson Baker. Gene played the upright bass guitar for several years with the Hub City Bluegrass Band. Later years, he and Carol enjoyed traveling in the Winnebago in the spring and summer. He was a Supervisor at Fleetguard Filters. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Carol McDole Baker; Sons:  Steven Eugene (Mary) Baker  and  Barry (Rita) Baker; Brother:  Edward (Ruth) Baker. The family will receive friends from 5 pm until 8 pm on Wednesday evening at Hunter Funeral Home and from 10 am until service time at the church on Thursday.

Funeral Services for Mr. Joe E. Chilton, age 77, of Allons will be conducted 11 a.m., Thursday, July 25, 2019 from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home. Rev. Dee Wells will officiate. Burial will follow in the Richardson Cemetery. The family will welcome friends on Wednesday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at Speck Funeral Home. Mr. Joe Chilton passed from this life on Monday afternoon, July 22, 2019 from the Overton County Health & Rehab. He was born in Clay County Tennessee on January 2, 1941 to the late Joe Chat & Elizabeth Louella Booher Chilton. Joe worked for many years in Nuclear Power Plants. He loved being around his family. He enjoyed wood crafting, and working in his garden.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Patricia R. Carmack Coleman, age 68, of Livingston will be conducted 2 p.m., Friday, July 26, 2019 from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home. Bro. Danny Staggs will officiate. Burial will follow in the Mt. Gilead Cemetery. Mrs. Pat passed from this life on Monday evening, July 22, 2019 from the Overton County Health & Rehab. She was born in Overton County on October 1, 1950 to the late Ray & Zilpha Lee Carmack. She was a 1969 graduate of Livingston Academy, and a member of the Church of Christ. Pat loved her family very much and enjoyed spending time with them. She took great joy in cooking, listening to gospel music and watching and listening to preaching on TV. Pat was always there for others. Pat leaves behind her son, Scott Colman & wife Brandy of Livingston; step-son, Jeffrey Coleman of Oklahoma City, OK; step-daughter, Jenny Coleman of SC; brother, Joe Carmack & wife Hazel of Gainesboro; grandchildren, Toni, Cody, Colson, Paxton, Maddox, Dawson, Dillon, Casey, Christen, and Katelyn; great-grandson, Leo James Coleman. In addition to her parents, Pat was preceded in death by her husband, James “Buck” Coleman; daughter, Deborah Faye Cravens; grandson, James Clifton Cravens. The family will welcome friends on Thursday evening from 5 until 9 p.m. at Speck Funeral Home.
