Obituaries For Tuesday, April 14
James David Howard, age 81, of Sparta, took his final journey into Glory on Monday, April 13, 2020, at his home in the Hampton’s Crossroads community. He made the journey riding on his John Deere tractor, one of his favorite things to do. David lived a full and blessed life. He was a retired over the road truck driver, but he worked many jobs during his life, including at Alladin Industries, managing a shoe store, running gas stations, and farming. In his younger years, he was an avid drag racer. His current hobbies included hunting and fishing with his sons, and working on his antique tractors and taking them to shows. He served in the Army National Guard in the early 1960’s. David loved the Lord, his family, his church, and his friends. He has been a child of God since an early age, and served as a deacon and a Sunday School teacher. He was a member of Hampton’s Crossroads Baptist Church and was part of Sunday School and Senior Adult Group. James David Howard was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Auda Howard, his parent-in-laws, Landon and Jewell Young, and his infant daughter, Scarlett Louise Howard. He is survived by: Wife of almost 60 years- Louise Howard of Sparta; Sons- David Russell Howard (Nicole) of Mission Viejo, CA; Timothy Christopher Howard of Sparta; and Michael Clifty Howard of Sparta; Grandchildren- Jonathon Howard of Sparta; Savannah Howard of Knoxville; Tyler Howard of South Carolina; Courtney Howard of South Carolina; Kyle Roach of Mission Viejo, CA; and Sydney Roach of Mission Viejo, CA. A host of in-laws, nephews, cousins, and his church family and friends also survive. Due to the unusual circumstances we are facing, at this time there will not be a public service. The family will try to have a Celebration of Life service at a later date.
Mr. Anthony Michael “Mickey” Vana, age 72, of Monroe, passed from this life from the comfort of his home on Sunday Morning, April 12, 2020 after a brief illness. Mickey was born West Palm Beach, Florida on December 12, 1947 to the late Anton & Jean Dmytryk Vana. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and fly fisher, where he was one of the early layout boat hunters along with his partner Pete Ellis and crew. Mickey was a 40 plus year bird hunter in Saskatchewan, Canada. He raised and hunted Chesapeake Bay Retrievers for over 20 plus years, and loved carpentry, woodworking and hunted and fished all over the U.S., Canada, Mexico and Central America. Mickey was a retired Police Lieutenant where he worked in the Ports & Harbor Unit in Cleveland, OH. He ran one of the largest Task Forces in the U.S. in Cleveland, Ohio before his retirement and operated a 22 1/2 ft. Mako boat on the Great Lakes. Mickey leaves behind his loving wife, Marlene DelPizzo Vana of Livingston; sons, Brett Kenneth Vana of Livingston, and Christopher Michael Vana of Cleveland, OH; grandchild, Peke Cheyenne Vana; brother, Kenneth Joseph Vana & wife Linda of Bay Village, OH; niece, Kerry & husband Andrew Dilyard; nephew, Benjamin & Ken Vana; great nephews, Caleb, and Micah Dilyard; great-niece, Emily Dilyard. Mickey was preceded in death by his parents. Celebration of Life Services will be held at a later date.
Richard Alan Cochran, 72, of Allons, Tennessee passed away on April 11, 2020 in his home. Rich was born August 21, 1947 in Wilmington, Delaware to Cecil and Grace (Northwood) Cochran. He graduated from John Dickinson High School class of 1965 and went on to serve in the United States Navy. He met his wife Janice and they were married in Wilmington, Delaware in 1971. Rich loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He spent many years in the woods of Pennsylvania with his hunting buddies seeing who could bring home the biggest prize. He also enjoyed fishing trips with his brother Robert and friends. Rich had a 38 year career at DuPont before retiring in 2004. After his retirement, Rich moved to Tennessee with his wife where they built their dream home overlooking Dale Hollow Lake. He spent the last 17 years enjoying the quiet and slow pace of life in that beautiful home. He will be forever remembered by his wife of 48 years Janice, children Brian and Kimberly (Royce) and his grandson Gavin. He will also be fondly remembered by his mother Grace, sister, Kathy and numerous brother and sister-in-laws, nephews, nieces and dear friends. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Memorial donations in memory of Rich can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital
Mr. John H. Ringley III age 39 of Cookeville, Overton Co., TN passed from this life on Saturday, April 11, 2020 at his home surrounded by family and friends. John H. Ringley III was born in Cookeville, Putnam Co., TN on October 21, 1980 to Kathy Carr Swallows and the late John Harris Ringley Jr. John will be greatly missed by his family and friends. John was a man with a heart of gold and cared for all. Survivors include his Wife: Ashley Ringley; 2 Daughters: Abbiegail Allen, Addyson Allen; Mother: Kathy Swallows; Father: Kenneth Swallows; 1 Sister: Susie Swallow Green; Other survivors include his Brothers & Sisters of Sons & Daughters of Mercy. Private Graveside services for the family will be held at the Green Hill Cemetery in Alpine, Overton Co., TN. Officiating the service will be Bro. Danny Webb. The family request that in lieu of flowers please make donations toward funeral expenses.
Private services for Mr. Edward Lee Frazier Jr., age 74, of Cookeville, will be held Wednesday, April 15 at the Baxter Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Smellage Cemetery. A Celebration of Life Service to be held when restrictions are lifted. He passed away Sunday April 12, 2020 at Mabry Health Care and Rehabilitation Center in Gainesboro. Mr. Frazier was born September 7, 1945 in Chattanooga, to the late Edward Lee Sr and Bertha Scott Frazier. Ed graduated from East Ridge High School in 1963. He graduated Tennessee Tech University in 1968 with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. He served at Eastman Chemical Company in Kingsport, TN for over 33 years prior to retirement. Ed was a member of Boma First Church of God. He was a former member of Scott Memorial Church of God in Chattanooga and Heritage First Church of God in Kingsport. Ed served as a youth leader in the Church of God for several years. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Jo Cunningham Frazier, whom he married September 11, 1965 in Greenville; daughter, Beth Ann (Shane) Kelley of Mt. Juliet; and grandchildren, Parker and Paisley Kelley In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Charlotte Shipp and Bobbie Jean Doughty. Memorial contributions may be made to Boma First Church of God, 10630 Old Baxter Road, Baxter, TN 38544.
Graveside services for Philip Bradley (Brad) Scott, 44, of Cookeville, will be held at 1 P.M. on Wednesday, April 15, 2020, at the Scott Family Cemetery in the Fairview community of Jackson County. He passed away on Sunday, April 12, 2020, at his residence. He was born June 10, 1975, in Jackson County, to Glenda Faye Bean Scott and the late Billy Scott. He was a factory worker. Survivors include 1 Son: Dustin MaKaleb Scott of Florida; 1 Daughter: Jamie Michelle Scott of Livingston; his Mother: Glenda Faye Bean Scott of Gainesboro; his Fiancée and her Children: Theresa LeAnn Maynard and Russell Welch and Carson Hamilton, all of Cookeville; and 2 Brothers: Billy Wayne (Danielle) Scott of Ohio, and Stephen Scott of Cookeville. There will be no visitation or services at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to help with funeral expenses by contacting the funeral home.
Graveside services and interment for the family of Mrs. Karen Elaine Moore Thomas, age 62 of Cookeville, will be held Thursday, April 16, 2020 at Cookeville City Cemetery. Bro. John Rodgers will officiate. Mrs. Thomas died Monday April 13, 2020 at her residence following extended illnesses.
