Obituaries For Thursday, November 14

Mr. Leon “Bee” Hall, age 65 of Algood, died Wednesday afternoon, November 13th at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Arrangements for Mr. Hall are incomplete.

Funeral services for Mr. Samuel Thomas “S.T.” Griffin, age 93, of Sparta, will be conducted 11:00am Friday, November 15, 2019 from the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home. Burial with full military honors by the Veterans’ Honor Guard will follow in Old Zion Cemetery. He passed away Tuesday morning, November 12, 2019 at his residence. Mr. Griffin was born April 4, 1926 in the Griffintown Community of White County to the late Ransom Isaiah & Edna Ada Caldwell Griffin. He worked 13 years for Porter Hayes on his Peddler truck and then worked over 40 years installing tile. When he was not working his day job, he loved working his farm. S.T. served his country in World War II with the U.S. Army. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his wife Gena Marie Stewart Griffin; children Janet Griffin Newberry, Helen Diane Griffin and Stephen Thomas Griffin; great-grandson Benjamin Samuel Allen Rice. Family members left to cherish his memory include his daughter Ilean Guy of Doyle; Son: Tony Griffin of Sparta; Grandchildren: Kimberly Mitchell, Dana Peller, Felicia Johnson, Jammie Roberts, Stephanie Zettlemoyer, Lindsay Cronenbold, and Jessica Griffin; Great-grandchildren: Donald Anthony Hammond, Derrick Hammond, Zachary Stevens, Peyton Roberts, Jaelyn Roberts, Sean Dick, Stephen Dick, Rylee Zettlemoyer, Jayden Johnson, Braelynn Cronenbold, Kinley Day, and Harper Young; Great-great-grandchild: Ellis Martin; Sister: Kathleen Patton of Tampa, Florida. The family will receive friends Thursday from 4-8:00pm at Hunter Funeral Home.

Funeral Services for Willard Franklin Green, age 69 of Sparta, will be Friday, November 15, 2019 at 12 p.m. at Bear Cover Baptist Church Sparta, TN with Bro. Kenny Rains and Bro. Mickey Caison officiating. Burial will follow at New Bon Air Cemetery. He passed away Tuesday, November 12, 2019 in Chattanooga, TN. Mr. Green was born in Crossville, TN on June 28, 1950 to the late Willard Harrison and Mary Francis Smith Green. The family will receive friends on Thursday, November 15, 2019 at Oak Lawn Funeral Home from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Funeral services for Anna V. Smith, 96 of Cookeville will be Saturday, November 16 at 11 AM from the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston Horner Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Jim Lottie Smith Cemetery in Pickett County, TN. Rev. Mike Head and Rev. Bill Stone will officiate. Mrs. Smith died Sunday, November 10, 2019 in Bailey Manor of Cookeville. She was born February 6, 1923 in Livingston to the late Jesse Golden and Belle Reed Lewis. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Doyle Carthell “Smitty” Smith on August 2, 2004 and 11 siblings. She was a “Rosie the Riveter” during World War II in Michigan. She wore many ‘hats’ in her life: she and her husband, Doyle owned and operated Smith’s Market in the Bangham Community for many years. They had an apple orchard also, drying and selling apples each year. She was a beekeeper, selling local honey each year. She served as a voter registration clerk at the Bangham voting precinct. She was a hospital nutrionist in Michigan and worked also at Acme Boot. She was a diligent rook player and enjoyed her “Fun Friday” group at Cookeville First Baptist Church.The family will receive friends Friday from 5 to 8 PM and after 10 AM Saturday at the funeral home.

A Life Celebration Gathering For Sharon Miller, Age 63, Of Monterey, Tennessee, Will Be Held On Saturday, November 16, 2019, From 12:00 PM Until 1:00 PM At The Mineral Springs Freewill Baptist Church, 3932 Hanging Limb Highway, Monterey, Tennessee. Ms. Miller Was Born On June 13,1956, In Monterey, Tennessee, To The Late Lloyd And Cliva McCowan Phipps. Ms. Miller Passed Away On Sunday, November 10, 2019, At Her Home. Ms. Miller Was A Homemaker And A Factory Worker. She Is Survived By, 3 Sons And 2 Daughters-In-Law, Ben And Jessica Miller Of Sparta, TN, Andrew And Lecretia Miller Of Monterey, TN, Alan Miller Of Monterey, TN; 8 Grandchildren; Sister And Brother-In-Law, Diane And Harvey Gene Phillips Of The Love Joy Community; And Several Nieces And Nephews. In Addition To Her Parents, She Was Preceded In Death By 2 Sisters, Elease Beaty And Vida Clark; And 3 Brothers, Vernon, Charles And Donnie Phipps; And Companion, Larry Peters. Funeral services for Inez Dunn, 92 of Cookeville will be Saturday, November 16 at 1 PM from the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston Horner Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Cookeville City Cemetery. Bro. Buddy Johnson and Bro. John Mason will officiate. Mrs. Dunn died Wednesday, November 13, 2019 at her home. She was born May 12, 1927 in Pickett County to the late Tom Allen Smith and Kizzie Garrett Smith. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by first husband, Herbert B. Anderson, son David Anderson, sisters Ruby Smith, Portie Smith, Veachel Baumgardner, Willa Flo Smith and Melba Jean Crouch, brothers Thurman, Chaston, Kermit, Theron and Billy Glen Smith. She was a homemaker and member of Jefferson Avenue Church of Christ. She enjoyed sewing, embroidering and working crossword puzzles. Survivors include husband, William W. Dunn of Cookeville, daughter Dimple Correa of Shelby Township, MI, son and daughter-in-law Phillip and Debra Anderson of Cookeville, sister Betty Lou Mossey of Livingston, grandchildren: Colt (Amy) Correa, Clinton Correa, Candace Correa and husband Ulrich Koheler, great-grandchildren: Caleb, Lydia and Nathan Correa. The family will receive friends Friday from 5 to 8 PM and after 11 AM Saturday at the funeral home.

She passed away Saturday, November 09, 2019 in Nashville. Connie was born on July 30, 1947 to the late Harvey Nolan Myers and Minnie Bell Walker Scott in Sparta. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by: Husband- Johnny Turrungton Sr., Brothers- Donald Myers, and Jeff Myers, and Sister- Shawna Evon Myers. Survivors include: Life Partner- Othel Dunham Jr. Daughters- Lisa Bryan of Sparta, and Lora Turrington of Sparta; Son- Johnny Turrington Jr.; Grandchildren- Rodney Henry, Jesse McCullough, Jacob Turrington, and Josh Turrington; Great-Grandson- Braxton Taylor; Great-Granddaughter- Paige McCullough; Sisters- Carolyn Duham, Renee Myers, Melissa Fisher, and June Myers; Several Nieces and Nephews. A Celebration of life for Mr. Johnny Wu Cushing age 20 of Buffalo Valley community, will be held Saturday November 16th, 2019 from 2 PM to 4 PM at the Silver point church of Christ. Mr. Cushing passed from this life on October 27, 2019 in Sheboygan, WI. Mr. Cushing was born in Anderson, IN on October 5, 1999 to James Cushing and Melisa Williamson. Visitation for Mr. Jimmie D. Swezea, 72, of Gainesboro, will be held Saturday at Anderson Upper Cumberland Funeral Home from 2 P.M. – 4 P.M. He passed away on November 8, 2019, at Mabry Health Care Center in Gainesboro. The family has chosen cremation, with a private memorial service at a later time. He was born March 10, 1947, in Jackson County, TN, to the late Beaman Dow Swezea and Georgia Golden Swezea. He worked as a machinist at Aeroquip, and was a member of the Church of Christ. He also served in the U.S. Navy.

Funeral services for Bobby Frazier, age 82, of Cookeville, will be Sunday, November 17 at 1:00 p.m. at Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home with interment in Crest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday, November 16 from 5 until 8 p.m. and Sunday from 12 until 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. He passed away Thursday evening, November 7 at Bailey Manor in Cookeville.

Funeral Service for Dawn Annette Altilio Evans, 53, of Sparta, will be on Sunday, November 17, 2019 at 2p.m. at Oak Lawn Funeral Home in Sparta with Bro. Joseph Brandenburg officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Lawn Memorial Cemetery. She passed away Monday, November 11, 2019 in Nashville. Mrs. Dawn was born on October 30, 1966 to Joseph Francis and Evelyn Annette Bennett Altilio in Orlando, FL. She was served as a nurse for 2 years. Dawn loved college football, especially Florida Gators! She loved camping, spending time with her family, nature, and being outdoors. She is preceded in death by her father- Joseph Francis ALtilio. Survivors include; Husband- Jeff Evans of Sparta; Son-Sean Evans (Stephanie) of Chattanooga; Sister-Donna Brandenburg (John) of Sparta; Sister- Debbie Hatchen (Bobby) of Sparta; Brother- Frank Altilio pf Longwood, FL; Mother- Evelyn Annette Bennett. The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 17, 2019 from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Oak Lawn Funeral Home.

A Celebration of Life for Rebecca Jean Killgore Ross, 96 of Sparta is scheduled for Sunday afternoon, November 17, 2019, 3pm at Central Church of Christ, 45 North Main Street, Sparta. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 with the service at 3.

Funeral services for Mrs. Nell Farley Lamb, age 91 of Cookeville, will be held Sunday, November 17th at 3:00 p.m. at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Sand Springs Memorial Gardens. Pastor Bobby Sebastian will officiate. Mrs. Lamb’s family will recieve friends Saturday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and again Sunday from 1:00 p.m until service time at the funeral home. She died Tuesday morning, November 12th at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.

The Funeral Service for James Arnold Norris, age 83 of Sparta, will be Monday, November 18, 2019 at 11 a.m. at Oak Lawn Funeral Home with Bro. Ronnie Taylor officiating. Burial will follow at Plainview Cemetery in Cassville. He passed away Tuesday, November 12, 2019. He was born July 25, 1936 to Roy Monroe Norris and Annie Dildine Norris. To know him was to love him. We knew him as a loving husband, who loved his wife of 62 years like no other. We called him Dad, Pops, Papa, Ernie, and “Russ”. He loved his family and always taught them to love the Lord as he did. He showed that love by the way he lived every day. He loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, teaching them life lessons and a little mischief that he was known for. He loved his garden and was known to be able to fix anything. He loved to play Rook and was one of the best enjoying every game, and didn’t care to “shoot the moon” ever. Arnold was preceded in death by his parents, Brothers- Jess Norris and Alfred “Baldy J” Norris of Sparta, Sisters- Lela Mae Anderson and Betty Jo Cole of Sparta. Arnold is Survived by his loving wife of 62 years- Faye Daniels Norris; Daughters- Vickie Brady (Gary), and Angie Wilhite (Patrick) all of Sparta; Son- Darrin Norris (Keleena) of Sparta; Grandchildren- Kyle Brady (Kelsey), Tyler Brady, Sarah Layne (Levi), Collin Wilhite, Kylee Norris, Kolt Norris; Great-Grandchildren- Zaiden Brady, Saylor Brady, Beckett Brady, Magnolia Brady, and Shepherd Layne; Brother- Robert Norris; Sisters- Joyce Henley and Ruth Emerton; Several nieces, nephews, friends, and loved ones. The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 17, 2019 from 4 p.m. – 8 p.m. at Oak Lawn Funeral Home.

Memorial services for Mr. Douglas Lynn Sullivan Sr., age 66, of Cookeville, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday November 20 at Fairview Church of Christ. Mr. Sullivan passed away Monday November 11, 2019 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. His family will receive friends Wednesday from 10 a.m. until service time at the church.
