Gary Cass, 68 of Cookeville, passed away on Wednesday, March 31 at home surrounded by his family. Gary was empolyed by Norwalk Sawmill for many years until he became disabled. He enjoyed watching all kinds of car racing, going to the horse sales and just sitting out back of the house beside the campfire, just talking to friends and family. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Linda Jackson Cass. Gary chose cremation and his wishes were followed. A memorial service is not currently planned.
Funeral services for Samuel (Sam) Lee Chaney, age 81 of Sparta, will be Friday April 2, 2021 at 1:00 P.M. Thurman Funeral Home. Interment will be at Davis Cemetery. She passed away on Sunday March 28, 2021 at Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville. He was born in Heening, TN to YZ and Flossie Chaney on October 18, 1939. Sam attended Lauderdale High School in Ripley, Tn. for his basic studies. Sam met the one and only Margie while he was working construction with the railroad system. They were married for 50 plus years. Sam would often tell his family that, “Granny robbed the cradle “due to the age difference and give that bashful smile. Sam worked at Thomas Industries and retired after 40 years with the company. He is survived by his daughter, Maxine Glimps. Visitation will be Friday April 2, 2021 at 12:00 P.M. till 1:00 P.M. at Thurman Funeral Home.
Graveside services for Genie Mae Hammock Scott, age 73 of Gainesboro, will be held on Friday, April 2, 2021 at 1:30 pm at Pharris Cemetery. She was born March 23, 1938 in Jackson County, TN and she passed way on Sunday, March 28, 2021 at her residence at the age of 73. She was the daughter of Elmer Esters Hammock and Stella Mae Stafford Rhoten. She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ. She was married to Charles Ward Scott who passed away on December 1, 2019. Survivors include two daughters, Lisa Rivera of Ontario, CA, and Davenna J. Weathers of Trona, CA. There will be no visitation at the funeral home.

Freddy Looper will officiate. Burial will be in the Overton County Memorial Gardens. The family will welcome friends on Friday from 11 AM until time of services at 2 PM. Mrs. Cravens passed from this life on Saturday, March 27, 2021, from Vanderbilt Medical Center. She was born in Cullman, Alabama on December 28, 1972, to Dennis Mosley and Linda Collins. Bobbie enjoyed spending time with her family and taking care of her grandchildren. She loved trips to the lake and enjoying the water. Funeral services for Steve Raines, 69, of Gainesboro, will be held on Friday, April 2 at 2 P.M. at Anderson Upper Cumberland Funeral Home in Gainesboro. Burial will follow in the Byers Cemetery in the Center Grove community. Mr. Raines passed away on Wednesday, March 31 at his residence. He was born April 18, 1951, in Jackson County, to Willene Raines and the late Joe Willard Raines. He was a retired factory worker. Survivors include his daughter, Cayla Diane Raines of Gainesboro. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to assist with funeral expenses by contacting the funeral home. The family will receive friends on Friday from 10 A.M. until time of services.
Funeral Services for Mr. Joel Lee Boles, age 35 of Lebanon and formerly of Overton County, will be conducted 11 a.m., Saturday, April 3 from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home. Bro. Benny Sells will officiate. Burial to follow in the Fiske Cemetery. Mr. Boles passed from this life on Tuesday morning, March 30 in Nashville. Joel enjoyed working on cars. He loved Harley-Davidson motorcycles, and enjoyed riding dirt bikes. Joel never met a stranger and enjoyed everyone he came in contact with. Joel leaves behind his mother, Jenny Reece. The family will welcome friends on Friday evening from 5 until 9 p.m. at Speck Funeral Home.
Funeral services for Mr. James Douglas “Doug” Robinson, age 70 of Tunnel Hill, Georgia, and a native of White County, will be conducted 2:00pm Saturday, April 3 from the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home with burial in Young Cemetery. passed away Wednesday, March 31, 2021 at Hamilton Medical Center in Dalton, Georgia. Doug was born April 12, 1950 in Sparta, Tennessee to the late William Savage “Bill” and Vera Mae Luna Robinson. He worked in the maintenance department for Shaw Carpet as a parts expeditor. Doug was a hard worker and was proud to provide for his family with his work. When he was not working and wanted to relax, he was fishing or watching wrestling. Above all else, his favorite thing to do was spend time with his family. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Naomi Lawson Robinson; and children, Gregory Douglas Robinson, Jason Matthew Robinson and wife Megan, and Cheryl Rene Robinson Abrams. The family will receive friends from noon until service time Saturday at Hunter Funeral Home. Eugene Lawson will officiate.

Burial will be held at a later date at the Hill Gunter Cemetery. LD Franklin passed from this life on March 30 at Livingston Regional Hospital. He was born in Alpine, Tennessee on January 1, 1936, the 10th of 11 children, to the late Andy and Hattie Sells Franklin. LD enjoyed spending time outdoors walking in the woods. He enjoyed sports – especially football. His grandchildren were the light of his life. LD leaves behind his wife, Judy Savage Franklin of Livingston; son, Scott Franklin and wife Lesia of Livingston; and daughter, Lesa Franklin of Nashville. The family will welcome friends on Saturday from 1 p.m. until time of services at 3 p.m. at Speck Funeral Home.

She was a factory worker at Crotty, and a member of the Assembly of God. Survivors include her daughter, Amy (Erik) Pryor Baxter of Mt. Juliet. Young and Mabel Garnet Kincaid Young. On April 16, 1960, he was married to Dorothy Anne Young, who survives. He was a journalist, and a member of the New Hope Baptist Church. Survivors include his Wife: Dorothy Anne Young of Gainesboro, TN; 2 Sons: Scott Sheridan Young of Dunlap, TN, and Robert Douglas Young of Spring Lake, MI; and 2 Daughters: Dawn Renee Agee of Cookeville, TN, and Kimberly Anne Croisant of Whitleyville, TN. A celebration of life for James Michael “Bobo” Borden, age 64 Of Cookeville, scheduled for Sunday, April 18th at Hidden Valley Golf & Country Club from 2pm-4pm. Mr. Morgan passed away on March 24th at Vanderbilt Medical Center. Michael was the General Manager of Hidden Valley Golf and Country Club for many years. He was also known as “Mr. White Plains” for the years he spent there. He was happiest on a beach, a golf course or watching the Florida Gators. He once asked the doctors if they were having trouble finding blood that was orange and blue. He was known for his sense of humor, funny one-liners and the stories he liked to tell over and over again. He was a big-hearted guy who touched many people’s lives with his kindness and generosity. He loved his family and his dogs and will be missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife Cristy; Stepson, Josh McDaniel; and his daughters, Kelli (Charles) Norris and Amanda Borden.
