Obituaries For Monday, July 12

Billy Frank Carter age 81 of Granville, TN passed away Sunday in Cookeville. Billy was born in Granville to Hass and Ruby Nell (Daniels) Carter on December 21, 1939. He went on to attend Jackson County High School and later married the love of his life, Ruth Elrod Carter, on March 3, 1957 in Smith County, Tennessee. In his early life, he worked in construction as an equipment operator best known for his bulldozer work. He was an avid horseman and farmer raising cattle and tobacco crops. His lifelong passion was breaking and training young horses and mules. Billy is survived by his loving wife Ruth Carter and his three children, Paul Carter, David Carter (Pam Holloway), and Barbra Green (Carter). Services for Mr. Carter will be announced at a later date. Mr. Carter was baptized into Christ December 8, 2020 and was a member of the Liberty Church of Christ.

Howard “Junior” Dickerson, 76 of Cookeville, passed from this life on Saturday, July 10, 2021, at his home. Junior was born Wednesday, June 6, 1945, in Sparta, and he was the son of the late Charlie Dickerson and the late Nota (Fraiser) Dickerson. Junior was a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was loved by all that knew and he will be greatly missed. Junior is survived by, Wife, Frankie Dickerson; Son, Brent and Angie Dickerson; Son-In-Law, Shon Robinson; 5 Grandchildren, Aaron Clark, Hayden Dickerson, Kristen Hutchinson, Taylor Hutchinson, and Jesse Robinson; One Brother and Two Sisters; Mother-In-Law, Rama Howard; A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends. In addition to his parents, Junior was preceded in death by, Daughter, Tammy Robinson; Two Sisters, and One Brother. Junior chose cremation, the family followed his wishes, and a celebration of his life will be held at a later date at First Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

Mrs. Mala Terry Sivo, age 73, of Rickman passed peacefully from this life, on Saturday morning, July 10, 2021 from her home. She was born in Pine Knott, Kentucky on March 5, 1948 to the late Paul Alan and Cleda Mayfield Terry. Mala was the visual arts teacher for many years for the Overton County School System. After graduation Livingston Academy in 1966, she went on to East Kentucky University to receive her masters degree in Art. She taught at Allons Elementary, Rickman Elementary, Livingston Middle School, then retiring from Livingston Academy. She loved Art of all shapes, sizes, and forms. Mala loved traveling, flowers, and her children she taught through the years. She loved God and was a good Christian Lady. Mala leaves behind her husband, Andrew Sivo of Rickman, TN; step-son, David Patrick Sivo of Pensacola, FL. There are no services scheduled at this time.

Mr. Timothy Daniel Tackett, age 59, of Livingston passed from this life on on Friday evening, July 9, 2021 from the Tristar Centennial Medical Center. He was born March 6, 1962 in Harriman, Tennessee. Timothy loved going to church, eating, and playing on his tablet. His greatest joy was Thanksgiving and Christmas. Timothy leaves behind his sisters, Myrl Ann Trew of Rockwood, TN, and Trenda Howard of Oak Ridge, TN. There are no services scheduled at this time.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Edath Marie Delk Watkins, age 83, of Livingston will be conducted 2 p.m., Tuesday, July 13, 2021 from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home. Bro. Tim Delk will officiate. Burial to follow in the Upchurch Cemetery in Pall Mall. Mrs. Edath passed from this life on Saturday evening from the Overton County Health & Rehab in Livingston. She was born in Fentress County, Tennessee on January 24, 1938 to the late Clarence and Vannie Crabtree Delk. Christian in Faith, Edath loved going to church and being with her church family. She enjoyed reading her bible and listening to Bluegrass and Gospel Music. Edath leaves behind her sons, Marty Beaty of Dalton, GA, and Robbie Beaty of Cookeville, TN; daughters, Rhonda Watson and Susan Kersey both of Crossville. The family will welcome friends on Tuesday morning from 11 until time of services at 2 p.m. at Speck Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Paul Neal Birdwell, age 67 of Knoxville, formerly of Gainesboro, will be held Tuesday July 13 at 6:00 pm at the Church of the Good Shepherd in Knoxville. The Reverend Dorothy Pratt will officiate. Interment of ashes will be in the John L. Clark Cemetery in Gainesboro on July 15 at 3:00 pm. He was born on January 31, 1954 in Gainesboro, TN and he passed away June 30, 2021 at the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville, TN at the age of 67. He was a Medical Laboratory Technologist and worked for many years at the Jackson County Hospital in Gainesboro and at East Tennessee Children’s Hospital in Knoxville. He was a graduate of Tennessee Technological University and received a Master of Arts degree in history from the University of Tennessee. Paul had a lifelong interest in music and loved playing the guitar. He also loved reading and scuba diving. He was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd in Knoxville, TN. He is survived by his sister, Judy Birdwell, his nephew, John Ingram. Memorial donations may be made to the Birdwell-Brown Cemetery Fund in care of Anderson Upper Cumberland Funeral Home, 2131 S Grundy Quarles Hwy, Gainesboro, TN 38562 or to the Church of the Good Shepherd, 5409 Jacksboro Pike, Knoxville, TN 37918. Funeral Service for Joseph (Joe) Eston Savage Sr., 75, of Doyle, will be on Wednesday, July 14, 2021, at the church at 1 PM with Tracy Curtis and Jimmy Jack Walker, burial to follow at Greenwood Cemetery. He passed away on Sunday, July 11, 2021, in Murfreesboro. Mr. Savage was born on February 22, 1946, in Doyle to the late James and Sarah Savage. Joe grew up in Doyle. From a young age he loved farming. He spent most of his life selling farm equipment at his business, Savage Equipment Company, which served the community for over 20 years. It started in the basement of his house selling Vermeer hay balers. When he wasn’t working on the farm, he loved coaching his son and daughter’s sports teams. He was a 10-year veteran of the Tennessee Army National Guard. He loved watching Atlanta Braves Baseball, and on the weekends, you could find him in Knoxville at UT football or basketball games. He was an avid gardener, loved genealogy, and civil war history, but what he enjoyed most was going to watch his grandchildren play sports. Preceded in death by: Mother Sarah Ida Myers Savage, Father James Alexander Savage II, son Stephen Paul Savage, brothers Charles “Mack” Savage, Tommy Savage, Eugene Savage and sister, Mary Bouldin Rogers. Survived by: Mother of his children: Sue Savage; Son: Joey Savage (Lisa) Daughter: Ashley Rust (Brett) Special Friend: Joyce Vandergriff; Grandchildren: Anneston Savage, Maddie and Silas Rust; Brothers: James A. Savage (Wanda), Doug Savage (Sandra); Sister: Effie McCord (John); Sister-in-laws: Katherine Phifer, Linnie Mae Savage, and Janice Savage; Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 13, 2021, at Doyle Nazarene Church from 4 PM – 8 PM.

Funeral Services for David G. West, age 73 of Union Hill, will be held on Wednesday, July 14, 2021 at 2 pm in the Chapel of Anderson Upper Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. Kelly Stockton officiating. Burial will follow in the Union Hill Flatt Cemetery. He was born March 8, 1948 in Jackson County, TN and he passed away at Cookeville Regional Medical Center on Friday, July 9, 2021 at the age of 73. He was the son of Dowell and Blanche Young West. He was a retired factory worker and a former deputy sheriff with the Jackson County Sheriff Dept. He was married on Feb. 10, 1973 to Linda Faye Bridwell for 48 years. Mr. West was a member of the Union Hill Church of Christ. Survivors include his wife, Linda Faye West of Cookeville, sons, John Dow West of Cookeville and Wesley (Rebekah) Adam West of Cookeville, daughter, Brandy Nicole West of Cookeville; brothers, Robert (Carolyn) and Alvin (Nancy) West both of Bloomington Springs and James (Penny) West of Cookeville; sisters, Judy (Doug) Vandiver and Linda Maxwell both of Bloomington Springs, Helen West of Cookeville and Polly West of Baxter. Visitation will be on Tuesday, July 13, 2021 beginning at 11 am to 8 pm and again on Wednesday from 11 am to 2 pm. Pallbearers will be Spencer West, Matthew West, Caleb West, Brian Birdwell, Donnie Birdwell and David Birdwell. Honorary pallbearers are Shawn West, Jonathan Bowman, Zaydan Redmon and Deegan Redmon.

Funeral Services for Mr. Marvin C. Norrod, age 92, of Monroe will be conducted 1 p.m., Thursday, July 15, 2021 from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home. Bro. John Copeland will officiate. Burial to follow in the Grant Norrod Cemetery. Marvin passed from this life on Monday morning, July 12, 2021 from the Morningside Assisted Living in Cookeville. He was born in Overton County on September 17, 1928 to the late Benton and Dessie Coleman Norrod. Marvin was a member of the Grace Baptist Church in Alpine. Marvin leaves behind his wife Vada Hull Norrod of Monroe; sons, Gary Norrod and wife Victoria of Siler City, NC, and Mark Norrod and wife Pattie of Elkhart, IN; daughters, Phyllis Nix of Semmes, AL, and Sandy Shumate of Cookeville; brothers, Melvin Norrod of Monroe, Cecil Norrod and wife Ann of Glasgow, KY,a nd Dorman Norrod and wife Patty of Akron, OH; sister, Thelma Phillips and husband Wally of Peoria, IL. In addition to his parents, Marvin was preceded in death by his infant son, Steve Terry Norrod; sister, Marion “Toots” Hull and infant daughter. The family will welcome friends on Wednesday evening from 5 until 8 p.m., then on Thursday from 11 a.m. until time of services at Speck Funeral Home. Funeral services for Kathy Payne, 69, of Cookeville, will be held on Thursday, July 15, 2021, at 2 P.M. at Anderson Upper Cumberland Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Dodson Branch Cemetery in Jackson County. She passed away on Sunday, July 11, 2021, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. She was born September 27, 1951, in Jackson County, to the late Raymond Mayberry and Ruby Mayberry. On October 15, 1976, she was married to Roger Dale Payne, who survives. She worked as an LPN, and was a member of the Dodson Branch Southern Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 2 Brothers: James Mayberry and Aaron Mayberry; and 1 Sister: Margaret Scott. Survivors include her Husband: Roger Dale Payne of Cookeville; 2 Sons: Wayne (Dianna) Brett of New Cuyama, CA, and Robbie (Melissa) Payne of Columbus, OH; 2 Daughters: Kimberly (Vinceson) Williams of Cookeville, and Mary Payne of Cookeville; 5 Brothers: Raymond Mayberry, Charles Mayberry, Michael Mayberry, Dennis Mayberry, and Roscoe Mayberry; 4 Sisters: Clema Scanlon, Juanita Judd, Jeanette Stewart, and Shirley Kinnaird; Grandchildren: Ashley, Cody, Landon, Devin, Jace, Nathan, and Liam; and Great Grandchildren: Harper, Trypp, and Colt. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 10 A.M. until time of services.

A memorial service for Howard Lee Jessie, age 74 of Mt. Pleasant, SC, formerly of Cookeville, will be held July 17 at 11:00 AM at Cunningham Memorial Park Mausoleum in St. Albans, West Virginia. Mr. Jessie passed away on June 8, 2021. Howard was a former resident of Belle and Charleston, WV. He also lived in Boynton Beach, FL, Irmo, SC, and Cookeville, TN. Howard proudly served in the United States Air Force from November 1963 until November 1967. He also served in the West Virginia Air National Guard. He retired from DuPont Belle Plant in 2001. He was a long-time member of Boulevard Church of Christ in Charleston, WV and Stevens Street Baptist Church in Cookeville, TN. He will be sadly missed by his family and by his many friends from West Virginia, Tennessee, Florida, and South Carolina but has been joyfully welcomed into Heaven. Howard is survived by his wife, Virginia A. Jessie, Mt. Pleasant, SC, his daughter and her husband, Brett and Missy Wilson of Mt. Pleasant, SC, his son and his wife, Michael and Holley Townsend, of Lakeland, FL, his sons, Victor and Brian Honaker of Charleston, WV. In lieu of flowers donations to the Stevens Street Baptist Church, 327 W. Stevens Street, Cookeville, TN 38501 are suggested. Per his wishes, Howard has been cremated and his ashes will be returned to West Virginia.

Memorial services for James (Jim) Francis Deffley, Jr., 69, of Cookeville, will be held on Saturday, July 24 at 1 P.M. at Anderson Upper Cumberland Funeral Home. The family has chosen cremation. Mr. Deffley passed away on Tuesday, July 6 at his residence. He was born January 15, 1952, in Woonsocket, RI, to the late James Francis Deffley, Sr. and Mary Catherine Dolan Deffley. On August 26, 1979, he was married to Carol J. Deffley, who survives. He worked as a purchasing manager. Survivor include his wife, Carol J. Deffley of Cookeville; and daughters, Christina (Edward) A. Laquerre, and Jami (Edward) Barnsley. Memorial donations may be made to the American Red Cross by contacting the funeral home. The family will receive friends on Saturday, July 24 from 11 A.M. until time of services.
