Obituaries For Monday, July 1

Kris Johnson, age 48, of Cookeville passed away Sunday, June 30, 2019 at his home in Cookeville following brief illness. He was born Sunday, March 21, 1971 in Cookeville to Gene Albert Johnson and Sandra Faye Lollar Johnson. Kris was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, Elmer and Geraldine Lollar and paternal grandparents, Eugene and Ruth M. Johnson. He is survived by his wife, Maria Vivar Johnson; parents, Gene “Jack” and Sandra Lollar Johnson of Cookeville; father and mother-in-law, Steve and Kathy Babcock of Gainesboro; sister-in-law; Vanessa (Michael) Netherton and their children, Aden, Zane, and Emery of Gainesboro; several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. A private family gathering will be held at a later date. Ida Bell Johnson, Age 88, of Cookeville, passed away Saturday June 29, 2019 at her home. Arrangements are incomplete.

Private graveside services for Betty Lois “Beck” Hensley, age 89, of Baxter will be held Tuesday, July 2nd, 2019 at 10:00 am at Cook Cemetery with Charles Maxwell officiating. Interment will follow in Cook Cemetery. Betty Lois Hensley passed away Saturday, June 29, 2019 at Bailey Manor in Cookeville, Tennessee. She was born Sunday, April 27, 1930 in Baxter, Tennessee to the late Lawrence Maxwell and Eula Jean Brown Maxwell. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cook Cemetery.

Funeral services for Mr. Jerry Robbins, age 70 of Cookeville, will be held Tuesday, July 2nd at 11:00 a.m. at the Cookeville chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Crest Lawn Cemetery. His family will receive friends Monday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and again Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Jerry died suddenly Friday morning June 28, 2019 at his home. Jerry was born in Cookeville, TN on Tuesday, October 19, 1948 to the late J.B. and Thelma Lee Jacques Robbins. He graduated from Central High School and attended Tennessee Technological University before pursuing a longtime career in Landscaping and Irrigation. For 42 years Jerry dedicated his life to serving our country through the Tennessee National Guard. During his time in the military, he had the opportunity to serve in Iraq as a Chief Warrant Officer (CW4). He was a member of Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

Funeral Services For Jerry Schubert, Age 76, Of Crossville, Tennessee, Will Be Conducted On Tuesday, July 2, 2019, At 11:00 AM From The Chapel Of Goff Funeral Home. Rev. Mark Hall Will Officiate With Interment To Follow In The Green Acres Memory Gardens. Mr. Schubert Was Born On February 14, 1943, In Kingston, Tennessee, To The Late James Leonard And Hazel Vann Schubert. Mr. Schubert Passed Away On Saturday, June 29, 2019, At His Daughter’s Home. Mr. Schubert Was A Construction Worker, A Maintenance Worker With Cumberland County Hospice, And A Former Correctional Officer With The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office. He Was A Member Of Lawrence Chapel Church Of God Of Prophecy. In Addition To His Parents, He Was Preceded In Death By His First Wife, Veronica Boggs Schubert; Great Granddaughter, Lily Faith Russell; Sisters, Margaret Pelfrey, Willie Clyde Davis And Infant Sister, Robbie Schubert; And Brother, Jimmy Schubert. The Family Will Receive Friends At Goff Funeral Home On Monday, July 1, 2019, From 5:00 PM Until 8:00 PM.

Funeral services for Loyd Robert Walker, 50, of Gainesboro, will be held at 1 P.M. on Tuesday, July 2, 2019, at Anderson – Upper Cumberland Funeral Home in Gainesboro, TN. Burial will follow in the Richmond Cemetery in the Flynn’s Lick community of Jackson County, TN. The family will receive friends on Monday from 2 P.M. – 8 P.M., and Tuesday from 10 A.M. until time of services. He passed away on Thursday, June 27, 2019, at his residence. He was born December 20, 1968, in Gainesboro, TN, to Lois Ragland Walker and the late William Loyd Walker. He worked in construction, and was of the Baptist faith. He served in the Tennessee National Guard.

Funeral services for Ms. Minnie Belle Myers Scott, age 91 of Doyle, will be held on Tuesday, July 2, 2019, at 12:00 pm at Thurman Funeral Home in Sparta, TN and officiating will be Bro. David Copeland. Interment will follow in the Seals Cemetery. She passed away Saturday, June 29, 2019 at her home in Doyle, TN.She had a degree in Psychology from TN Tech and worked for many years for LBJ&C. Ms. Minnie Belle was born August 28, 1927 in Pikeville, TN (Bledsoe County) to John Alexander Walker and Susie Elizabeth Music Walker. The family will receive friends on Monday, July 1, 2019, at Thurman Funeral Home in Sparta, TN from 4:00 pm till 8:00 pm.

A Memorial Service for Selena Nicole Hutton, 31 of Sparta, will be held at 6pm on Tuesday, July 2, 2019 at Oak Lawn Funeral Home with Johnny Haston officiating. The family will welcome friends from 4pm until time of the service at the funeral home. She passed away on Friday, June 28, 2019. She was born Tuesday, March 22, 1988 in Holland, Michigan. She was the daughter of Dennis Hutton and Jeanna Tayes Simpkins. Selena loved to draw, poetry, make-up, and her job as a cosmetologist.

Funeral service for John Collins Owens, age 79, of Cookeville, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday July 3 at Church on the Hill. Rev. Bill Stone will officiate. Interment with military honors will follow at Cookeville City Cemetery. Mr. Owens passed away Saturday June 29, 2019 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was born September 30, 1939 in Overton County to the late Alvin Delmer and Bernice Holbert Owens. Mr. Owens was a member of the TN National Guard. He was a Tennessee Tech University graduate. His professional career included service with the Federal Highway Administration from which he retired. He later became an enrolled agent with the IRS. He also formerly worked for the Food and Drug Administration and US Department of Agriculture. Mr. Owens was a devout Christian and member of Church on the Hill. He is survived by his daughter, Emily (Brad) Qualls of Nolensville; three sisters, Ann Barkalow of Mt. Juliet; Jerri Barnhill of Birmingham, AL, and Ella (Gary) Givens of Cartersville, GA; two grandchildren, Kathryn and Claire Qualls; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Melinda Burkitt Owens; and infant sister, Peggy Jane Owens. His family will receive friends Tuesday from 4 – 8 p.m at Dyer Funeral Home and again Wednesday from 10 a.m until service time at the church. Funeral services for Edmonda Young Stephens, age 98 of Sparta, will be held 11:00 am Wednesday, July 3, 2019 in the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home with burial in the Indian Mound Cemetery. Edmonda passed away on Sunday afternoon, June 30, 2019 at St. Thomas Highlands Hospital. The family will receive friends from 4pm until 8pm on Tuesday Evening.

Funeral services for Ann (Anna Amelia Augusta) Owen Nelms, age 91 of Cookeville and formerly of Nashville, will be held Wednesday, July 3 at 12:00 p.m. at Spring Hill Funeral Home in Nashville. Interment will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Nelms died Friday, June 28, 2019 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. She was born Saturday, December 31, 1927 on Frenchman Hill, Mount Pleasant, to the late William Jay and Anna Amelia Augusta Wagner Owen. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Ruby Owens, Florence (Artis) Thompson, Sadie Carr, Gladys Josephine (Amos) Davidson, and Billiej (Wayne) Boshers. She is survived by her son, Dr. Jonathan Nelms and wife Glenda of Cookeville; daughters, Cynthia Lynn Nelms of Mobile, AL and Susan Murray Plank of Bois D’Arc, MO; grandsons, Nathanael Nelms and John Philip Nelms; nieces and nephew, Nancy Davidson, Art (Ellen) Thompson, Marsha (James) Woody, and Patti (Patrick) Lyons; and family friend Julie Hornady. Mrs. Nelms’s family will receive friends Tuesday, July 2 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home and again on Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until service time at Spring Hill Funeral Home.
