William Oscar Tabers, 89, of Sparta, passed away peacefully, Sunday, December 2, 2018, at Life Carae Center of Sparta. Bill was born Sunday, February 24, 1929 in St Louis , Missouri, to the late Mary Jones and Lloyd Tabers. Bill was a Naval veteran of W.W.II, attended George Washington University and retired from Maryland and Virginia Milk Producers Cooperative Association after 28 years of service as a systems analyst. Bill is survivied by his devoted friend of 58 years, Johnny Brown, 3 cherished neices, Linda, Kitty and Mary Ann. Also, his loyal Lab, Jack. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two nephews, Jerry Lynn and William Howard. Oak Lawn Funeral Home and Cremation Center of Sparta will be assisting the friends and family with honoring Bill’s wishes of cremation.
Beverly Johanne Turner, 79 of Rickman, passed away peacefully Saturday, December 1, 2018, at 2 pm in Cookeville. She was born Saturday, November 25, 1939 in Boston, Indiana, to the late Vivian Phenis and John Houser. She was married to Donald Gene Turner on December 26, 1959. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her Stepfather: Lloyd Wadsworth, Brothers, Mark Kenneth and Thomas Duane Houser. Survivors include: Husband: Donald Gene Turner of Rickman; 2 Daughters: Lisa Raco of Birmingham, AL, Sheryl Turner of Ft. Pierce, FL; 1 Son: Jeff Turner of Rickman; 3 Granddaughters: Sabrina Turner of Ft. Pierce, FL, Veronica Crawford of Glenburn, ND, Anna Raco of Birmingham, AL; 1 Grandson: Chris Donze of Birmingham, AL; 1 Great Granddaughter: Autumn Rose of Glenburn, ND; 2 Great Grandsons: Tonazj Alexander of Ft. Pierce, FL, Andrew James of Glenburn, ND; Brothers-in-law: Dennis Turner of Richmond, IN, Neal Turner of Beaverton, OR; Numerous Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Nieces and Nephews. A Memorial Service will be held in Richmond in the Spring of 2019.
Funeral services for TL Evans, 97, of Sparta, will be conducted 11:00am Tuesday, December 4, 2018 from the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery with full military honors presented by the Veterans’ Honor Guard. Mr. Evans passed away Nov. 29, 2018, at Life Care Center of Sparta. Mr. Evans was born in White County April 21, 1921 to Fred and Tabitha (Bitha) Evans. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Mary Ruth Rich Evans, son Tommy Lee Evans, and siblings Verna Evans Lewis, Bessie Mae Evans, Hayden Evans, Alonzo Evans, Robert Evans, and William (Bill) Evans. He is survived by his daughter in law Mary Susan Evans, grandson Dr. Cory T Evans and wife Jennifer, three great grandsons Xander, Ayden and Eli. He is also survived by a sister in law Jean Rich, cousin Eugene Phillips, several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, several great great nieces and nephews and special friend of the family James Livesay. The family will receive friends Monday from 5-8:00pm at Hunter Funeral Home.
Funeral services for Mr. Robert Lee Crawford, Jr. age 98 of Sparta, will be conducted 1:00pm Tuesday, December 4, 2018 from the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Eastland Cemetery with full military honors presented by the Veterans’ Honor Guard. Kenneth Peters and Doug Downs will officiate. Mr. Crawford passed away Saturday, December 1, 2018 at the VA Medical Center in Nashville. Mr. Crawford was born July 16, 1920 in the Eastland Community of White County to the late Robert Lee Crawford, Sr. and Maude Lockwood Crawford. He was a retired electrician and served his country in the U.S. Army in World War II.
Funeral services for Mrs. Connie F. Likens, age 56 of Livingston, will be held Tuesday, December 4, 2018 at 1 PM at the chapel of the Hall Funeral Home of Livingston with burial to follow in the Green Hill Cemetery. Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, December 3, 2018 from 5 PM to 9 PM and on Tuesday from 8 AM to 1 PM. Officiating will be Bro. John Copeland. passed away at Bethesda Health Care Center in Cookeville, Putnam Co., TN on Saturday night, December 1, 2018. Mrs. Connie F. Likens was born on June 11, 1962 to the late Earl Glenn Cantrell and Rassie Norris Cantrell in Livingston.
Funeral Services for Billy Lee Knowles, Jr., 28 of Quebeck, will be held at 2pm on Tuesday, December 4, 2018 at Oak Lawn Funeral Home with Ronnie Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Lawn Memorial Cemetery. Billy passed away on Wednesday, November 28, 2018, at his home. Born Wednesday, December 6, 1989 in Sparta, he was the son of the late Billy Knowles Sr. and Paulette Tayes Knowles. Billy was very dedicated to his family and friends. Survivors include: Daughter- Katie Yvonne Knowles of Smithville; Daughter- Alyssa Suzanne Knowles of Smithville; Sister- Sasha Suzanne Knowles of Cookeville; Grandmother- Sue Hunter of Sparta; Grandparents- Beth Gann (Roy) of Woodbury; Special Aunt- Angie Hensley (Horace) of Sparta; Several Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Nieces, and Nephews also survive. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandfather, Billy Roy Knowles. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 10am until time of the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Oak Lawn Funeral Home to assist with funeral expenses.
Funeral services for R. Freeman Lollar, age 83 of Cookeville, will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, December 5, 2018, from the chapel of Crest Lawn Funeral Home with Bro. Myron Greer officiating. Burial will follow in the Crest Lawn Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, December 4, 2018, and Wednesday, December 5, 2018, from 9:00 am until time of services at Crest Lawn Funeral Home. Lollar passed from this life with his loved ones by his side on Sunday, December 2, 2018, at his home. Freeman was born Tuesday, May 7, 1935, in Baxter, Tennessee, he was the son of the late Charlie “Haskell” Lollar and the late Maggie Oscia (Lamb) Bryant. Freeman was a wonderful son and husband, loving dad, doting grandpa, and great grandpa. Freeman was a self-employed landscaper for most of his life and designed and created works of art at his client’s homes. After retirement, he went to work for UCARTS driving for their SOS division where he would take individuals to various appointments. During the time spent with these individuals, it allowed him time to speak with them about his Savior and led many people to Christ through his life and testimony. Freeman loved to sing gospel and often sang in various places with his two children, Cher and Ronnie, and great-granddaughter, Katelyn. Freeman was a charter member of New Beginning Assembly of God where he served as a deacon for many years. He was a great Christian man. Freeman will be greatly missed.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Gussie “Mama Gussie” Ophelia York-Clark, age 94 of Sparta, will be held Wednesday, December 5th, 2018 at 11:00am in the chapel of Hunter Funeral Home, with the burial at Davis Cemetery. Gussie passed away Wednesday, November 28, 2018 at Life Care Center of Sparta. Daughter of Hannah Stone York and Henry York, was born August 24, 1924 in Sparta. Gussie attended and graduated from the public schools of White and Putnam County. She worked as a teacher’s assistant in the White County school system, for several years. She was also an employee at Mallory, where she retired to care for her aging mother, in July of 1981. Gussie was a devoted member of Kynette United Methodist Church. She began to sing in the choir at an early age and continued until her health begin to fail. Gussie was preceded in death by her husband, James Henry Clark; her parents Henry and Hannah York; brothers, Ernest York, Robert Henry York and Andrew Jackson York; and her sisters, Mattie York and Annie Lee York. Left to cherish her precious memories are her family, a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. Survivors include Mrs. Clark’s three daughters: Jimmie Ann League of Sparta and special friend Kenneth McGee; Carolyn Hobson (Dennis) of Sparta; Marilyn James (Kevin) of Greensboro, NC. Seven Grandchildren: Tammie Hobson, Michele League, Farrah League-Sutherland (Rohan), Jasmine Clark, Michael League, Christopher James (Chanel), and Faith James. Seven Great-grandchildren: Erika Dibrell, Katelyn Dibrell, James Jordan Clark, Allison Dibrell, Maya League, Janelle Stewart, and Noah James. Goddaughter: Annette King. The family will receive friends, Tuesday at 4:00pm – 7:00pm at the funeral home.
A memorial service honoring Mr. George “Skip” Alden Bruce III, age 57 formerly of Sparta, will be held on Thursday, December 6, 2018 at 6pm from the chapel of Hunter Funeral Home. The family has entrusted Hunter Funeral Home with George’s final wish to be cremated. He will be laid to rest in Stone Mountain, Georgia at a later date. George passed away unexpectedly Thursday, November 29, 2018 in Knoxville. George was born January 30, 1961 in Stone Mountain, Georgia to the late Clarice Lovell-Bruce and George Alden Bruce, II. He owned and operated Bruce’s Concrete in Sparta for 20 years, then worked as a production technician for Green Mountain Coffee Company. He is lovingly survived by his Sons: Robert Bruce of Seattle, WA, Michael Bruce of Sparta; Sisters: Karma Meck & husband Rob of Sugarland, TX, Candy Bruce of Durham, NC, Sherry Bruce of Horn Lake, MS; Nieces: Alana Sims of MS, Kaelin & Kelsey Meck of TX; Great Nephew: Alden Sims of MS; Mother of His Sons: Elizabeth Grodzki-Bergstrom of Sparta; And many friends from near and far. The family will receive friends from 4-6pm on Thursday.
