James Grisham, Age 63, Of Algood, Passed Away On Friday, November 30, 2018, At His Home. Funeral Arrangements Are Incomplete.
Mrs. Gail McAllister Scholl, age 79 of Sparta, passed away Thursday, November 29, 2018 at her residence. Mrs. Scholl was born February 2, 1939 in Jersey City, New Jersey to the late David and Margueriette Newkirk McAllister. Gail was a food service worker for school systems in Florida, and she loved to cook in her spare time. She best expressed her love for those closest to her through her cooking and hospitality. In addition to her parents, Gail is preceded in death by her husband Edward “Pop” Scholl Jr. She is survived by her Children: Edward Scholl of Rahway, NJ, Joe Scholl of Bradenton, FL, Margueriette Scholl of Helena, MT, Jason Scholl of Sparta, Melissa Scholl of Sparta; 21 Grandchildren; Several Great Grandchildren; Brothers:Brian McAllister of Sarasota, FL, Craig McAllister of Barkhamstead, CT. Mrs. Scholl’s family has entrusted Hunter Funeral Home with her cremation. The family plans to have a reception at a later date where they will scatter the ashes of Gail and Pop together, in his favorite fishing spot in the Gulf, reuniting the couple once again.
Funeral services for Mary Frances Brown, age 89, of Rickman will be held Saturday, December 1st, 2018 at 11:00 am at Netherland Church of Christ with Mark Loftis officiating. Interment will follow in Eckel Cemetery. Mary Frances Brown passed away Wednesday, November 28, 2018 at her home in Rickman. She was born Wednesday, April 3, 1929 in Rickman, Tennessee to the late Stanley H. Carr and Carrie V. Goodpasture Carr. Mary Frances was a member of Netherland Church of Christ. She will always be remembered for her passion for teaching, love for her students, at Rickman School (where she taught Home Economics). After her retirement, she enjoyed quilting by hand. In addition to her parents, Mary Frances Brown was preceded in death by her husband Alvin Jared Brown. She is survived by: her son, Kent J. Brown; daughter and son-in-law, Sara F. and Calvin Bilbrey; granddaughter, Shanna Murphy, and her sons, Levi and Grayson, all of Rickman; sisters, June Evelyn Carr and Betty Sue Bilbrey of Sparta; several nieces, nephews, family and friends. The family wishes to express a special thank you to, Gerelene Winningham, Mary Booher, and Sherry Webb for the care and compassion they have shown in taking care of Mary Frances. The family will receive friends on Friday, November 30, 2018, 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM and Saturday, December 1, 2018, 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM at Netherland Church of Christ. Funeral services for Ms. Jessie Lea Thomas, age 84, of Cookeville, will be 12 noon Saturday December 1 at Dyer Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Crest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 11 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Ms. Thomas passed away Thursday afternoon November 29, 2018 at NHC of Cookeville.
Funeral services for Mr. Thomas Jefferson Choate, 79, of Sparta, will be held at 2 P.M. on Saturday, December 1, 2018, at Anderson – Upper Cumberland Funeral Home in Gainesboro. Burial will follow in the Sam Flatt Cemetery on Shepardsville Hwy. in Bloomington Springs. He passed away on Thursday, November 29, 2018, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was born July 5, 1939, in Cookeville, to the late Ned Lee Choate and Anna Burgess Choate. He was married to Johnie Ruth Choate, who survives. He was retired from Chrysler, and worked as an exterminator for Mid State Termite and Pest Control. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era, and was a member of the Church of Christ. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 1 Granddaughter: Alisha Marie Lewis; 1 Brother: Sam Choate; and 4 Sisters: Gladys Gunther, Jewell Sliger, Anna Lou Flatt, and Mary Ruth Choate. Survivors include his Wife: Johnie Ruth Choate of Sparta; 2 Sons: Chris (Sherry) Choate of Nashville, and Curtis John (Denise) Choate of Sparta; 2 Daughters: Cindy Kaye (David) Hughes of Cookeville, and Chandra Renee Szela of Rickman; 5 Grandchildren: Candice Renee Alvarez, Christopher Thomas, Jennifer Thomas, Kathleen Mudd, and Alex Choate; 4 Great Grandchildren: Braidyn, Ivy, Ireland, and Sophia; and 1 Sister: Mary (Luther) Fuqua of Cookeville. Funeral services for Mrs. Brenda Kay Brown, age 67 of Rickman, will be held Sunday, December 2, 2018 at 2 PM from the Chapel of the Hall Funeral Home of Livingston with burial to follow in the Zion Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Brown went to her Heavenly Home on Friday, November 30, 2018 at the Signature Health Care. Mrs. Brown was born in Livingston on June 25, 1951 to the late Vestel E. and Anna Nadine (Hooks) Nelson. Brenda loved her family and friends very much and she will be greatly missed. She was born in Overton County on January 10, 1946 to the late George & Elsie Ledbetter Stover. She was a member of the First Freewill Baptist Church in Livingston. Betty loved cooking for her kids, grandkids and friends. She loved church, sports and cheering on her grandchildren at ballgames. Betty leaves her sons, Marty Carr & wife Teresa of Livingston, and Mark Carr and fiancé Casey Sizemore of Livingston; grandchildren, Lorianne White & husband Matt of Livingston, Brent Carr & wife Sasha of Livingston, Brayden Carr, Brock Carr, and Cora Sizemore all of Livingston; great-grandchildren, Carson White, Gunter Carr, Harris Carr, and Brooke Carr; sister, Linda Henson; brothers, Jerry Stover and George Stover. She Grew Up In South Florida But Was Fond Of Saying “I Was Not Born In Tennessee, But I Got Here As Soon As I Could”. She Loved The Climate And Beauty Of Tennessee. Mrs. Miko Was Born On August 4, 1943, In Rochester, New York, To The Late Frederick And Elizabeth Hudlett. Mrs. Miko Attended University Of Alabama – ROLL TIDE. She Was Executive Director Of Mirawood Day School In Hollywood, Florida. She Loved Volunteer Work, Including Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, And Helping Hands. She Loved All Animals, Especially Rescue Dogs. She Enjoyed Traveling, Reading And Decorating The House For Every Holiday. She Was An Active Member Of St. Michael’s Episcopal Church. She Is Survived By Her Husband Of 53 Years, Stephen Robert Miko; 1 Daughter, Elissa Anne Miko And Companion, Shane Grathwohl; 2 Sons, Dr. Seann Robert Miko, Kyle William Miko And Wife, Ximena Lynda Miko; 2 Grandchildren, Isabella And Jacob Miko; Sister, Pamela Powell; Brother, Jeff Hudlett. Mrs. Bryant passed away Wednesday evening November 28, 2018 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Mercer, age 77, of Gainesboro will be conducted 2 p.m., Monday, December 3, 2018 from the Fellowship Cemetery, with Military Honors provided by the Overton County Veterans Honor Guard. Mr. Mercer passed from this life on Sunday evening, November 25, 2018 from the Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was born in Clay County on February 10, 1941 to the late Hilary & Geneva Glidewell Mercer. Harnold worked for Saturn Automotive. He was Pentecostal and enjoyed being outdoors, hunting and woodworking. He loved to help people anyway he could. His favorite enjoyment was with his family, especially his grandchildren. He leaves his loving wife Mrs. Marjorie King Mercer of Gainesboro; daughter, Pamela Mercer of Gainesboro; grandchildren, Danielle Mercer, Rhett Mercer, Michael Peak, and Matthew Peak; great-grandchild, Micah Peak; brother, Robert A. Mercer of Alamogordo, NM. In addition to his parents, Harnold was preceded in death by his sisters, Beatrice Brown, Helen Sidwell, and Opalene Franklin; brothers, John Ed Mercer, Samuel Arnold Mercer, Alton Mercer, and Talton Mercer. Sharlyn Joy Bumbalough, 72 of Sparta, passed on Thursday, November 29, 2018, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. She was born July 26, 1946 in San Diego, California. She was a beloved Daughter, Mother, and Wife. She was lovingly known as “Ma’Maw.” Survivors include: Husband of 54 years- Leonard Bumbalough; Brother- Ronnie Knipe (Andrea); Children- Carole Emerton (Lonnie), Vickie Hiles (Steve), Allen Bumbalough (Keitha), Amy Taylor (Randy), Karma Carter (Jonathan); Grandchildren- Amanda Dachoute (Pierre), Nicholas Hiles, Jeremy Hiles (Kristen), Braidan Hiles, T.J Taylor (Sarah), Ryan Taylor (Carrie), Brittany Ward (Benjamin), Casey Bumbalough (Bruce); Great-Grandchildren- Hannah Dachoute, Bella Dachoute, Makayla Dachoute, Isacc Taylor, Will Taylor, Jaxon Ward, Hershel Ward, Annabelle Gregory. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery with full military honors presented by the Veterans’ Honor Guard. Mr. Evans passed away Nov. 29, 2018, at Life Care Center of Sparta. Mr. Evans was born in White County April 21, 1921 to Fred and Tabitha (Bitha) Evans. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Mary Ruth Rich Evans, son Tommy Lee Evans, and siblings Verna Evans Lewis, Bessie Mae Evans, Hayden Evans, Alonzo Evans, Robert Evans, and William (Bill) Evans. He is survived by his daughter in law Mary Susan Evans, grandson Dr. Cory T Evans and wife Jennifer, three great grandsons Xander, Ayden and Eli. He is also survived by a sister in law Jean Rich, cousin Eugene Phillips, several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, several great great nieces and nephews and special friend of the family James Livesay. Born Wednesday, December 6, 1989 in Sparta, he was the son of the late Billy Knowles Sr. and Paulette Tayes Knowles. Billy was very dedicated to his family and friends. Survivors include: Daughter- Katie Yvonne Knowles of Smithville; Daughter- Alyssa Suzanne Knowles of Smithville; Sister- Sasha Suzanne Knowles of Cookeville; Grandmother- Sue Hunter of Sparta; Grandparents- Beth Gann (Roy) of Woodbury; Special Aunt- Angie Hensley (Horace) of Sparta; Several Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Nieces, and Nephews also survive. Funeral Services for Mrs. Gussie “Mama Gussie” Ophelia York-Clark, age 94 of Sparta, will be held Wednesday, December 5th, 2018 at 11:00am in the chapel of Hunter Funeral Home, with the burial at Davis Cemetery Gussie passed away Wednesday, November 28, 2018 at Life Care Center of Sparta. Daughter of Hannah Stone York and Henry York, was born August 24, 1924 in Sparta. Gussie attended and graduated from the public schools of White and Putnam County. She worked as a teacher’s assistant in the White County school system, for several years. She was also an employee at Mallory, where she retired to care for her aging mother, in July of 1981. Gussie was a devoted member of Kynette United Methodist Church. She began to sing in the choir at an early age and continued until her health begin to fail. Gussie was preceded in death by her husband, James Henry Clark; her parents Henry and Hannah York; brothers, Ernest York, Robert Henry York and Andrew Jackson York; and her sisters, Mattie York and Annie Lee York. Left to cherish her precious memories are her family, a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. Survivors include Mrs. Clark’s three daughters: Jimmie Ann League of Sparta and special friend Kenneth McGee; Carolyn Hobson (Dennis) of Sparta; Marilyn James (Kevin) of Greensboro, NC. Seven Grandchildren: Tammie Hobson, Michele League, Farrah League-Sutherland (Rohan), Jasmine Clark, Michael League, Christopher James (Chanel), and Faith James. Seven Great-grandchildren: Erika Dibrell, Katelyn Dibrell, James Jordan Clark, Allison Dibrell, Maya League, Janelle Stewart, and Noah James. Goddaughter: Annette King.
