Hazel Bernell Carter, 92 of Sparta, passed away Wednesday, June 9 in Sparta. Mrs. Carter was born on September 16, 1928, to the late Henry and Dovie Slatten Billings in Silver Point, TN. She was a beautician for over 50 years. Surviving family includes Son, J.F. Carter Jr. No services are planned at this time.
Funeral services for Iva Glen Shelton, age 74 of Cookeville, will be held Saturday, June 12th at 11:00 a.m. in the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Reverends Jonathan and Erin Angel will officiate. Interment will follow in Morgan-Pippin Cemetery. Iva passed peacefully from this earth on Friday, December 18, 2020 at Signature Healthcare, Whitesburg Gardens in Huntsville, AL. She was surrounded by her children. She is survived by her children, Aldon Shelton (Johanna) and April Shelton (Andrew Schnell) of Huntsville, AL; and David L. Shelton (Jennifer) of Bloomington Springs; her ex-husband and special friend, Eldon Shelton of Cookeville. grandchildren, Darya Kline (Hunter), John-Riley Shelton & Hollie Shelton of Tennessee and Alanna Shelton of Alabama; sisters, Shelby Jean Fillers of Chuckey and Darlene Baskette (Richard) of Limestone. Special nieces and nephews Debbie Andes (Roger), Dewayne Stanton, Ryan Baskette, Kim Johnston Williams (Bob) and Bryan Johnston (Rena). Former brother-in-law, Charles Johnston. In addition, she is survived by her special aunt Trula Gahagan (Spartanburg, SC) and several wonderful cousins, and other family members. Her family will receive friends Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Ms. Walker passed away Saturday, June 5. Ms. Walker was born on October 19, 1993, in Lebanon, TN to Jackie and Bridget Walker. She enjoyed training horses, and art. Surviving family includes Father, Jackie Walker of Spencer; mother, Bridget Lynn Walker of Spencer; and children, Briley Baker, and Timber Walker. She Was A Dietician At Standing Stone Health Care And Had Also Worked In The Garment Factory Industry. She Was A Graduate Of Monterey High School Class Of 1956. She Is Survived By Two Daughters And Sons-In-Law, Becky And Bro. Jack Honeycutt Of Gainesboro, Melissa And Scott Bilbrey Of Rickman; Two Sons And A Daughter-In-Law, Mike And Sherry Judd Of Monterey, and Mark Judd Of Rickman. Celebration of Life Services for Mr. Carl Edward Bull, age 65, of Murfreesboro, and formerly of Livingston, will be conducted Saturday, June 12, 2021 from 1 until 3 p.m. from the Standing Stone State Park, shelter number 3., please come and join the family to celebrate the life of Carl. Private family services will be held at the New Hope Cemetery, with Military Honors provided by the Overton County Veterans Honor Guard. Carl passed from this life on Wednesday, January 27, 2021 from the Alive Hospice in Murfreesboro. He was born in Gainesboro, Tennessee on June 12, 1955 to the late Noah and Lovie Jean Burks Bull. Carl enjoyed collecting glass and antiques and going to car shows. He loved his family dearly and was a member of the Church of God. Carl leaves behind his daughter, Carla Lamb and husband Joe of Sparta, TN; son, Chantry Bull and wife Christina of Clarksville.
Funeral services for Mrs. Marion Louise Shepard, age 94 of Cookeville, will be held Saturday, June 12th at 2:00 p.m. in the Cookeville chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Dr. Charles McCaskey will officiate. Entombment will follow in the Crest Lawn Memorial Cemetery. Mrs. Shepard died Friday June 4, 2021 at her residence. She and her late husband moved to Cookeville in 1980 and have been members of First Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Marion was a talented photographer. She enjoyed regular visits to the YMCA. She enjoyed geology and was a member of the Tennessee Gem and Mineral Society. She was thoughtful caring and a woman of peace. Mrs. Shepard is survived by her children, Steven Shepard of Racine, Wisconsin, and Jan Scott. Her family will receive friends Friday from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and again Saturday from 12:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Burial will follow in the Pharris Cemetery in the McCoinsville community of Jackson County. She passed away on Tuesday, June 8, 2021 at Alive Hospice in Murfreesboro, TN. She was born July 23, 1936, in Gainesboro, TN, to the late Martin Loftis and Zella Smith Loftis. She was retired from Nielsen, and a member of the Gainesboro Church of Christ. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 1 Son: Mark Keen; and her Brother and Sisters: Paul, Betty Sue, Juanita, and Jean. Survivors include 3 Sons: Brian (Mickey) Keen of Mt. Juliet, TN, Kevin (Corrine) Keen of Middletown, MD, and Steven (Angela) Keen of Norfolk, VA. The family will receive friends on Friday from 4 P.M. – 8 P.M., and Saturday from 11 A.M. until time of services.

David was born Tuesday, April 14, 1936, Rushford, New York, to the late Paul Harold James and Mary Luckey. David was a truck driver and worked many years over the road. Survived by: Wife – Ethel P. James, Cookeville; Daughter – Denise J. Newberry; Son – Donald E. James. Visitation will be from 12:00 noon to the time of services.
Funeral Services for Rubye Helen (Cole) (Morris) Butler, 79 of Sparta, will be held Saturday, June 12 beginning at 3:00 pm at Athens Church Of Christ in Sparta with Bro. Gene Bray officiating. Interment will follow in Pleasant View Cemetery in Putnam County. Rubye was a loving Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Sister and friend to all who knew her. She worked for the United States Postal Service for 29 years until her retirement. She was a member of Athens Church of Christ in White County. She is survive dby her children, Janet (Ronnie) King of Baxter, Jennifer (John) Hall of Crossville, James Lee Morris, and Jonathan K. Morris both of Sparta. Visitation for friends and family will be held Saturday, June 12 beginning at 12:00 PM until the time of services at 3:00 PM at Athens Church Of Christ.
Graveside services for Richard Carl Peters, 81 of Cookeville, will be held at 3 PM Saturday, June 12 at Oak Lawn Memorial Cemetery with Gerald Meyer and Keith Pickard officiating. Mr. Peters passed away Thursday, June 10. He was the third of five Sibling and grew up in Tuscon, AZ, where he graduated from Tuscon High School. He worked for 25 years as a locksmith with the Tuscon Unified School District, where he retired in 1994. Richard married the love of his life, Jane Peters on February 11th, 1961, and have enjoyed 60 years of marriage together. Richard enjoyed hunting, fishing, and anything outdoors. He also loved spending time with his family. He is a member of Heavenly Host Lutheran Church in Cookeville. He is survived by Wife, Jane Heimbuch- Peters; and children, Carl (Valery), Tim (Stacy), and Sharon (Dennis). In Lieu of flowers please make donations to the Alzheimer’s Foundation. The family will receive friends on Saturday, June 12, 2021, at Oak Lawn Funeral Home from 2 till 3 PM.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Mary Frances Davis, age 74 of Monroe, will be conducted 2 PM Sunday, June 13th, from Christ Church Presbyterian in Alpine where she will lie in repose from 1 PM until the time of services. Bro. David Beaty will officiate. Burial will be in Liberty Cemetery. Mrs. Davis passed from this life on Thursday morning, June 10 from her residence. Mrs. Davis always enjoyed gardening, cooking, and canning, but most of all she had a great love for her Lord Jesus Christ. Mrs. Davis leaves behind her husband Rex Davis of Monroe; daughters Janie (Roger) Bilbrey of Monroe, Sheila (Rick) Myrick of Livingston, and Ronda (Pete) Ventimiglia of Livingston; also her step-sons Ryan (April) Davis of Monroe, and Bernie (Jennifer) Copeland Byrdstown. The family will welcome friends on Saturday evening from 5 until 9 PM from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home in Livingston.
Funeral services for Mr. George C. (G.C.) Wright, age 96 of Algood, will be at 2 PM Sunday June 13 in the Cookeville chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Dr. Jim McAfee will officiate. Interment with military honors will follow in Paran Cemetery in Overton County. Mr. Wright passed away Wednesday June 9 in Algood at Signature Health Care of Putnam County. G.C. was a US Army veteran having served in the Asia-Pacific theater during WWII. He was retired from General Motors after 33 years of service. His family will receive friends Saturday from 5 – 8 p.m. and again Sunday from 1 PM until service time.
Funeral Services for Dean Allen, 82 of Sparta, will be Monday, June 14 at 2 PM at Christian Life First Assembly of God in Sparta with Brent Tevebaugh and Danny Denning officiating. Burial to follow at Smith Chapel Cemetery. Mr. Allen passed away Monday, June 7 in Cookeville. He married his wife on September 30, 1961. He is survived by Wife of 60 years, Joyce Allen of Sparta; and children, Angela Conatser (Ricky), Tracy Newberry (Bill), and Jason Allen (Wendy). The family will receive friends on Monday from 11 AM until the time of service at the church.
A Celebration of Life for Larry Ray Gateley, 69 of Baxter, will be held Monday, June 14 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm from the Bethany Methodist Church, 10699 Nashville Highway, Baxter with Pastor Tommy Davis officiating. Mr. Gateley passed from this life on Sunday, June 6. Larry was a loving son, brother, husband, father, uncle, and friend. He was an avid hunter, fisher, and all-around outdoorsman. He was incredibly loyal to his family and friends and that was very important to him. Larry was loved by all that knew him and he will be greatly missed. Larry is survived by, Mother, Evelyn Gateley.
