Brownie Dean Grissom, 79, of Walling, passed away Thursday, August 8, 2019 following extended illness. He was born July 7, 1940 in Walling to the late Cecil Elijah “Brownie” Grissom and Mary Lou Howell Grissom. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: Sisters: Helen Grissom Dunlap and Juanita Grissom Hennessee Boyd. Brownie is survived by: Wife: Jane Grissom; Children: Deana Wood of Birmingham, AL, Darrell Wayne Grissom of Pulaski, and Debbie Gregory of Sevierville; Grandchildren: Cody, Shelby, Matthew, Jonathan, and Joshua; Several great-grandchildren, nephews, a niece, and special family friend, Kim Roberson. A private graveside service will be held on a later date for family and friends. In Lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Oak Lawn Funeral Home in Sparta to help with expenses.
Funeral Services for Oudia Faye Bain (Wright), 78, of Walling, will be held at 6 pm on Friday August 9, 2019 at Oak Lawn Funeral Home with Jeff Wright and Tim Pelham officiating. A private family graveside service will be Saturday, August 10, 2019 at Spring Hill Cemetery. Oudia passed away August 6, 2019. She was born December 23, 1940 in Sparta to the late Robert and Hazel ( Lockwood) Smith. Survived by Husband: Casey Wright. Preceded in death by Parents: Robert Smith and Hazel Lockwood Smith; Brothers: Robert Keith Smith, James David Smith, and Franklin DeWayne Smith; Husband: Lester Verble ( L.V.) Bain JR.; Beloved Father and Mother- In- Law: Lester Verble Bain Sr and Emmadel Bain. Funeral Services for Mr. John Ernest Isbell, age 82, of Rickman, will be conducted 12 noon, Saturday, August 10, 2019 from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home. Bro. Brent Clark will officiate. Burial to follow in the Overton County Memorial Gardens with Military Honors provided by the Overton County Veterans Honor Guard. John passed from this life on Wednesday evening, August 8, 2019 from the Erlanger East Hospital in Chattanooga. He was born May 20, 1937 in Hazen Arkansas to the late Robert & Mary Devore Isbell. John served his country in the Air Force from 1954 to 1958. He met and married the love of his life in 1960 in Chicago, where they lived and raised their two children. John loved fishing, woodworking and any kind of engines to work on. He took joy keeping his yard in pristine order. John leaves behind his loving wife of 59 years, Mrs. Edna Louise Wright Isbell of Rickman; son, John Houston Isbell & wife Jackie of Murfreesboro; daughter, Sherry Louise Isbell of Mascoutah, IL; grandsons, William Isbell & wife Alicia, and Andrew Isbell all of Murfreesboro; sister, Lucy Toal of Northbrook, IL. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his brother, Bobby Isbell, and sisters, Marion Rohrer, and Margaret Fernandez. She was born Friday, May 12, 1950 in Cookeville, Tennessee to the late Walter Lee Bryant and Mary Catherine Gentry Bryant.
Celebration of Life Services for John Robert Officer, age 76, of Livingston will be conducted 3 p.m., Saturday, August 10, 2019 from the First Christian Church in Livingston. Rev. James Shenko will officiate. Attorney John Robert Officer passed from this life on August 6, 2019. He was born in Overton County to the late A.F. Officer, Sr. & Leilabel Dale Officer. He graduated from Livingston Academy in 1961 and the University of Tennessee College of Law in 1966 and began his practice. He practiced law in Livingston for fifty three years until his death. In addition he served as Overton County General Sessions Judge from 1998 through 2014 and was recognized for his work with the Genesis House, an organization for victims of domestic violence, Child Advocacy Services, and with child abuse prevention and awareness in Overton County. He had a great love of the outdoors and Dale Hollow Lake, having been co-owner of Holly Creek and Eagle Cove Resorts for thirty years. He loved his community and thoroughly enjoyed meeting people through his law practice, and campaigning and serving as General Sessions Judge. He loved and thoroughly enjoyed his children and grandchildren, spending time with them on the lake and the farm. John leaves behind his loving wife, Carolyn Clark Officer; daughters, Julie Elizabeth Officer, Rebecca Officer Potter & husband Tim, and Laurajane Officer Dudney, & husband Mark. In addition he leaves eight grandchildren, Timothy Potter, Grant Potter and Isabel Potter, Sarah Dudney, John Morgan Dudney, and Rachel Dudney, and Will Herbert and Clarke Officer. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his brother, A.F. Officer, Jr.; sisters, Rebecca Ann Officer, and Jean Marie Officer; aunt, Rose Hart Dale. Funeral Services for Mr. Kenneth “Ken” Mitchell Rogers, age 77, of the Greenbrier Community of Hilham will be conducted 4 p.m., Saturday, August 10, 2019 from the chapel of Livingston Funeral Home. Bro. Quentin Lee will officiate. Burial to follow in the Aaron Chapel Cemetery. Mr. Ken Rogers passed from this life on Wednesday evening, August 7, 2019 from the Cookeville Regional Medical Center after a 4 year battle with cancer. He was born in Sugar Creek Community of Jackson County on March 15, 1942 to the late Walter Warren & Mary Emma Murphy Rogers. Ken was a 1962 graduate of Jackson County High, and a member of the Church of Christ. He worked for many years as a Horse Ferrier. Ken loved anything to do with horses from riding, breaking, to horseshoeing. Enjoyed elk hunting in Colorado, to deer hunting in Tennessee. Ken lived and breathed Equestrian, where he helped many kids in 4-H and horse shows. Ken leaves behind his loving wife of 54 years, Mrs. Thelma Lucille Scott Rogers of the Greenbrier Community; sons, Paul Mitchell Rogers & wife Roxane of Cookeville, and Kenneth Brian Rogers & wife Stacey Mae of Middletown, OH; grandchildren, Casey Rogers of Middletown, OH, and Stephanie Rogers Winnette & husband Russell of McMinnville; great-grandchildren, Morgan Lyn Delape , and Russell “RJ” Winnette, Jr.; sister, Patricia “Pat” Rogers Stephenson of Cartersville, GA. In addition to his parents, Ken was preceded in death by his brother, Lynn Morgan Rogers. Connie Elaine Randolph was born Wednesday, August 8, 1951 in Cookeville to the late John Henry Nash and Beulah Alice Judd Nash. The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 10, 2019, 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM and Sunday, August 11, 2019, 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM at Presley Funeral Home.
A Memorial Service for Cynthia Turcott, 58 of Sparta, will be held at 3pm on Sunday, August 11, 2019 at Oak Lawn Funeral Home. Cynthia passed away on Monday, August 5, 2019, at her home. She was born Wednesday, January 18, 1961 in Fairmont, Minnesota, she was the daughter of the late John and Ellen Itzen Marushin. She retired after 31 years with the Veteran’s Administration. She founded the Second Chance Ranch for rescued animals, mainly horses, which she loved dearly. In addition to her parents, she preceded in death by two brothers, John Marushin and Joe Marushin. Survivors include: Husband- William Turcott of Sparta; Brother- Jim Marushin (Lori) of Fairmont, MN; Sister- Candace Shahan of MN. The family will welcome friends from 2pm until time of the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Second Chance Ranch.
Celebration of Life Services for Bruce Edward Myers, Sr., age 76, of Livingston will be conducted 4 p.m., Sunday, August 11, 2019 from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home. Judge John Turnbull will officiate. The family will welcome friends on Sunday afternoon from 2 p.m. until time of services. Military Honors will be provided by the Overton County Veterans Honor Guard. Attorney Bruce Myers, Sr. passed from this life in the comfort of his home on Tuesday morning, August 6, 2019. Bruce was born in Portsmouth, VA., on January 10, 1943 to the late Carroll Lee Myers, Sr. & Musa Sessoms Myers. He Graduated UT Knoxville in 1966 with a degree in Accounting, then after his service in the ARMY received his degree in Law at UT Knoxville. Bruce practiced law in Livingston for 46 years, moving here in 1973 to join Millard’s Law practice. Bruce served on the Overton County Bar Association, and the American Bar Association, Foster Care Board, and the Livingston Regional Hospital Board of Directors. He loved small town Livingston, Tennessee and the people in it. Bruce never met a stranger and was always inquisitive of the fine folks here and how they came about being here. He also was a Porsche lover even when his wouldn’t run and drive like it should.

Kernell, age 60 of Livingston, will be held on Monday, August 12, 2019 at 12 Noon from the chapel of the Hall Funeral Home of Livingston with burial to follow in the Nelson Cemetery located in Monroe, Overton Co. Mr. Kernell passed away on Wednesday, August 07, 2019 at the Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Mr. Kernell was born in Livingston on April 4, 1959 to the late Floyd L. and Dorothy E. (Bumblough) Kernell. David was a carpenter he laid carpet for a living. Survivors: Wife: Diann (Smith) Kernell; 1 Son: David C. Kernell and Partner Duston T. Johnson; 1 Daughter: Dana D. Kernell and Derrick Copeland; 1 Granddaughter: Draya Kernell; 2 Sisters: Betty Mabe, Amy Ledford; 2 Brothers: Mike Kernell, Rick Kernell. Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday evening, August 11th starting at 6 PM until 9 PM.
