Mr. Quentin Taylor Young, age 78 of Walling, passed away Thursday, August 29, 2019 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Funeral arrangements are incomplete.
Funeral services for Thomas Odean Minnear, age 86, of Cookeville will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday August 31 at Dyer Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Browns Mill Cemetery. Mr. Minnear passed away Wednesday morning August 28, 2019 at his home. The family will receive friends Friday from 5 – 8 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m until service time.
A Memorial Service for Sharon Lee Cox, 76 of Sparta, will be held on Saturday, August 31, 2019 at 2pm at Oak Lawn Funeral Home. Sharon passed away Saturday, August, 24, 2019 at her home. Sharon was born on May 21, 1943 to the late Raymond and Daspeni Subotich Cox in Sparta. In addition to her parents, Sharon is preceded in death by: Brothers- Nicholas Cox, and Raymond Reese Jr.; Sisters: Ida Juanita Stults, April Davis, and Mary Bullard; Daughter: Aliesha Holloway; Grandson: Joshua Smith. Survivors include: Daughters-Teresa Owens of Sparta, and Cherry Smith (Bob Kelly) of Sparta; Son: Marty Smith (Jarriecce) of Clarksville; Sister: Sussie Meadows; Grandchildren: Treva Owens, Marlea Owens (Eric), Bryce Owens, Scott Brown (Belinda), Royal Smith (Tori), Perrin Smith, Isabella Smith, Lilly Smith, and Landon Smith; Great-Grandchildren: Kaylee Brown, Jaydyn Wilbourn, Keylyn Wilbourn, Leylyn Wilbourn, and Raymond Crisp. The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 31, 2019 from 12-2 pm at the funeral home.
Graveside services and interment for Mr. Henry Dow Hughes, age 87, of Cookeville, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday August 31 at the Cookeville City Cemetery. Mr. Hughes passed away Monday evening August 26, 2019 at Signature Health Care of Putnam County. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the cemetery.
Funeral services for Mrs. Martha Jane Kendall, 79, of Gainesboro, will be held at 2 P.M. on Saturday, August 31, 2019, at Anderson – Upper Cumberland Funeral Home in Gainesboro. Burial will follow in the Kendall Cemetery on Harmony Road in Jackson County. She passed away on Monday, August 26, 2019, at Mabry Health Care Center in Gainesboro. She was born November 30, 1939, in Nashville, to the late Charles Lee Morphis and Hazel Richardson Morphis. On June 1, 1956, she was married to the late Loyd Taylor Kendall, who passed away March 5, 2013. She was a homemaker, and a loving mother and grandmother to many. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by 1 Daughter: Brenda Gambrell; and 1 Grandson: Brad Kendall. Survivors include 2 Sons: David Kendall and Floyd Kendall, both of Nashville; 1 Daughter: Barbara Tune of Gainesboro; 1 Brother: Jimmy Morphis; and 1 Sister: Ruby Eatons. She was a grandmother and great grandmother to many. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 12 Noon until time of services.
Funeral services for Lawrence Edward Morphew, age 96, of Cookeville will be held Saturday, August 31st, 2019 at 3:00 pm in the chapel of Presley Funeral Home with Nolan Cantrell officiating. Interment will follow in Crest Lawn Memorial with Military Honors. Mr. Morphew passed away Wednesday, August 28, 2019 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center in Cookeville. He was born Wednesday, March 7, 1923 in Baxter to the late Hershel Morphew and Dora Maxwell Morphew. He will long be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather. He will be sorely missed by many. He was a WWII Veteran, having served in the Army in the European Theater. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Bessie Beauton Jones Morphew; brothers, infant, Kenneth Morphew and Lloyd Murphy; sister, Mildred Gentry; son-in-law, Thomas Abbott. He is survived by three children, Kenneth (Carolyn) Morphew of Christiana, Patricia Abbott of Cookeville, and Danny (Wanda) Morphew of Cookeville; Clarence Morphew of Cincinnati, Ohio; sister, Marie Chaffin of Cookeville; 6 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 31, 2019, 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM at Presley Funeral Home.
Funeral services for Mrs. Martha Janell Henry Rice, age 83 of Sparta, will be conducted 1:00pm Sunday, September 1, 2019 from the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home with burial in Black Oak Cemetery. Mrs. Rice passed away Thursday evening August 29, 2019 at her residence. Mrs. Rice was born March 19, 1936 in Putnam County to the late Haskell Franklin & Mary Jewell Morgan Henry. She was a retired shirt factory worker. She loved to draw and her dog Buddy, but mostly she loved her family and spoiling them with her frozen yellow cake with chocolate icing. Janell was a longtime member of Bon Air Church of God. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her husband Willard Ray Rice; grandson Benjamin Rice; brother Charles Morgan. Surviving family members include her son Jerry R. Rice of Sparta; Granddaughters: Kimberly Rice (Robert) Mitchell of Walling, Dana (Michael) Peller of Cookeville; Great-grandchildren: Donald Hammond, Derrick Hammond, Zachery Stevens, Sean Dick, Stephen Dick and Zachary Peller; Sisters: Ruth Sapp of Cookeville, Glenda (Tom) Wise of Indiana. The family will receive friends Saturday from 5-8:00pm at Hunter Funeral Home.
Funeral services for Freddie Wayne Shanks, age 77, of Baxter will be held Sunday, September 1st, 2019 at 2:00 pm in the chapel of Presley Funeral Home with Bro. Herb Leftwich officiating. Interment will follow in Smellage Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 31, 2019, 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM and Sunday, September 1, 2019, 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM at Presley Funeral Home. Mr. Shanks passed away Thursday, August 29, 2019 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center in Cookeville, Tennessee following a brief illness. He was born Tuesday, May 19, 1942 in Baxter, Tennessee to the late Virgil Shanks and Dorthy Whitehead Shanks. He was retired from Flowserve. He loved to work his mules and take wagon rides. He loved to grow green beans, tomatoes and turnip greens. His grandkids and great-grandkids were the light of his life.
