Warren County High School (WCHS) announced Monday Matt Turner will take over as the head football coach beginning in 2019.
A press release from WCHS states Turner was chosen based on his ability to motivate and encourage student-athletes as well as his commitment to the community.
Turner has served as the Pioneers’ assistant head coach since 2002 and has also been with the school’s wrestling program for 11 years.
Turner will look to turn around a struggling Pioneers team that went 2-8 in 2018. The team has not had more than five wins in a season since 2007 and has not won a regional game since 2016.
Turner graduated from WCHS in 1997 and played college football at the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga from 1997 to 2000, earning All-American honors before returning to Warren County in a coaching role.
