Walk Through 150 Years Of Clay County History

Impending rain has forced Clay County’s 150th anniversary to move locations.

The new location is Acres of Grace Farm’s on Henson Road, but the Walk Through History is still set for October 24 from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

Clay County Chamber of Commerce Director Doug Young said the Walk Through History event will have demonstrators in historical clothing, Civil War era music, and activities for people of all ages. Young said you might even get a chance to eat and play like it’s 1870.

“They’re gonna have some hands on games and some toys that go back to the beginning of Clay County,” Young said. “One other thing we might mention, I think they’re gonna have some, I think they dug up some recipes from the past and they’re gonna have some old time kettle cooking and some things like that.”

Young said the Walk Through History will cover more than just the time Clay County was founded. Attendees will actually walk, as the name suggests, through the different eras in Clay County.

“They’re gonna walk through the entire history of Clay County in some way,” Young said. “It’s not gonna be just going back 150 years ago, however I’m sure that will be emphasized, I think it’s gonna cover the whole period.

Young said the event comes later this year after numerous anniversary events had to be cancelled or postponed due to COVID. Young said CDC guidelines will be followed, including masks and social distancing.
