Livingston’s first liquor store has received its inventory and plans to open in the near future.
Volunteer Wine & Spirits Owner Daniel Elder said his business will help keep tax dollars local to Livingston.
“Personally, I’ve had great support from the community,” Elder said. “People have been coming up to me saying ‘I can’t wait for you to open,’ ‘I can’t wait to be able to order this or this.’ It’s nice that now as a community we don’t have to drive to Byrdstown or Celina or Putnam County to take our tax dollars out of the city and out of our area.”
Livingston voters passed a referendum last June allowing liquor stores within the city. Livingston’s Board of Mayor and Aldermen officially began accepting liquor store applications after finalizing an ordinance last October.
Elder said the ordinance helped kick-start his goal of owning a small business.
“I had thought about it for a little bit,” Elder said. “A couple of months went by. Nobody had done it and I had been going back and forth on whether to do it or not. Finally I just made the decision to just go for it.”
Volunteer Wine & Spirits was awarded a certificate of compliance by the state earlier this year.
Elder noted that an official opening date has not been set yet, but added the store could open as early as this Saturday, May 18. The new store will be located at 2734 Bradford Hicks Drive.
