Van Buren’s Cade Simmons Elected As First 4-H Governor From County

Cade Simmons has been elected as the state’s 4-H Congress Governor, the first time a Van Buren County student has taken that honor.

4-H Agent Paula May said this is a huge honor for the county’s youth to get this positive recognition. She said that Simmons has been an active 4-H member since fourth grade, participating in any and all activities during his time.

“If I can do it, anybody can do it and that’s what I told him because I brought him home today,” May said. “I said you need to really talk to and encourage the younger kids to get them to participate. That way they can continue on and do great things.”

May said that Simmons took it upon himself to run for 4-H Governor, without anyone asking him. She said that Simmons’ big focus during his time in 4-H has been public speaking.

“He will be serving on the state 4-H Council,” May said. “He will be helping promote 4-H across the state and he will also help plan other state activities for the 4-H’ers across the state.”

May said the community can congratulate Simmons at the Van Buren County Fair, where he will be helping out with 4-H. She said the biggest message this sends to the county’s youth is that success is possible and if Simmons can do it, so can they.
