Van Buren 4-H Summer Camps Open for Registration

Kids in Van Buren County are invited to join the Van Buren County 4-H program for a multitude of summer day camp opportunities.

Van Buren County UT Extension County Director Chris Binkley said campers can expect several fun-filled days with crafts, activities, and field trips.

“We’re going to go to Camp Clements here in Van Buren County, and they have all kinds of courses set up, crafts set up, of course the river is there for some canoeing, swimming,” Binkley said. “We’re going to go to the 4-H camp in Crossville and take in everything the 4-H camp has to offer.”

Binkley said that without camp last year, they’re more than ready to get kids having fun and gaining more life experience this summer.

“You know last year we didn’t get to do anything so what this does is it gives kids a chance to get out and do stuff–interact with people,” Binkley said. “We’re coming out of this pandemic, we want to offer them all this learning experience–not necessarily that it’s all learning, but it’s also fun–they’re going to be learning and they’re not even going to realize that they’re going to be learning.”

Binkley said they hope their camps are something that will inspire kids to keep learning and to keep getting outdoors.

“We hope every day they leave there with some knowledge that they didn’t have before, and we hope also that it’s something down the road they’re going to continue to do,” Binkley said. “If it’s a place we go, for instance Fall Creek Falls, maybe it’s a place that they’ll say, ‘Hey Mom and Dad, let’s go back to this place.'”

Binkley said the camp is open to any Van Buren 4th-8th graders, and that there is a small registration fee. The “Summer Adventure Challenge” camps begin June 17th, and the “Sew Much Fun” camp starts June 15th. For more information or to register, call the Van Buren County Extension Office.
