The Upperman High Veterans Monument will not be revealed at the first Cookeville vs. Upperman football game.
Manager of the Upperman Campus Community Council Eric Brown said the council originally hoped to have the monument finished by this Friday.
“We are still in the process of fundraising. We are approximately six thousand dollars right now. Honestly our goal at this point,” Brown said “Now that we have a further definition of the functional pieces of the design and things like that that we didn’t have in may. We had a drawing and early design and now we have all the functional specks. Our fundraising goal is 85 hundred.”
Brown said the council will continue to raise funds in order to complete the project.
The council will use two different colors of granite to create the monument, Brown said. Black granite will be used as the top, while gray granite will complete the columns.
“So we have been able to identify the type of materials we are going to use to make sure that they are going to be durable for weather,” Brown said. “We have also worked out how the names will be placed on the monument itself.”
Brown said the council hopes to continue building the monument this fall, but they need to wait on the final confirmation of cost and availability of materials.
The Council will hold a box lunch fundraiser on August 24. For more information visit the Upperman Campus Community Council Facebook page.
