Upperman High’s AVP Named Top 10 School Run Broadcasts Nationwide

Upperman High School’s Audio and Video Production class named one of the top 10 Best School-Run Broadcast Teams in the nation.

Instructor Susie Dobbs said she decided to enter the Mascot Media competition even though the class is only in its second year. She said Upperman is the only school from Tennessee among the finalists.

“Literally we’re up against high schools from Chicago, and Texas and Arkansas, and Maryland and Connecticut,” Dobbs said. “And you know what? I think our kids, what they did and produced and submitted is better than any of them.”

Dobbs said they submitted one of the class’ morning announcements and sports review shows. Dobbs said students Riley Vinson and Caleb McAdam have been recognized as Broadcast Production MVPs.

Dobbs said she has been inspired by the students’ creativity and all of the work they put into growing the program. She said right now students are working on a short horror film that they wanted to produce for another competition.

“We are also planning on moving to live broadcasting soon,” Dobbs said. “The kids will also be competing more in student film festivals next year. We are always looking forward to our video production of Mayday and Upperman Graduation.”
