Upperman Campus Community Council Finishes Touches for Monument Construction

Upperman Campus Community Council is finishing touches for the veterans’ monument construction. The council plans to build the monument at the Upperman football field.

Eric Brown manages the council.

“As of right now, with the commitments, we are waiting on, we are at about forty-six or forty-seven hundred dollars, which our initial mark is five thousand,” Brown said. “Discussions are underway with some partners right now to help with some income labor and some of the process of getting the site prepared and that kind of stuff. ”

Brown said the council still needs donations to create the monument.

The weather delayed groundbreaking, said Brown.

“The weather has thrown everything off in terms of actually being able to start some things,” Brwon said. “So the council will be meeting soon and we will establish some hard dates.”

The committee hopes to reveal the monument on the first Upperman versus Cookeville football game, Brown said.

The monument will honor veterans from Baxter. Brown said the council will continue to collect names for the monument.

“We are always looking for names,” Brown said. “We continue to collect those names.”

Brown said the monument will remind the community of their long-standing history.

“It is going to be an amazing reminder of the volunteer spirit in that community,” Brown said. “And what all Baxter Seminary and Upperman High School have done in that region in terms of their students.”
