Upper Cumberland Electric Finalizes Outage Tool

The Upper Cumberland Electric Membership Corporation (UCEMC) hopes to finalize a new outage tool in the coming months.

General Manager Jimmy Gregory said the corporation will offer the tool on their website.

“Well, it has been installed. We have all the hardware and software in place. We haven’t turned it on yet so to speak,” Gregory said. “We are going through some last-minute reviews and some discussions with other entities that are involved or will be involved. So it could be in a month or so. It is taking a little longer than we thought.”

Gregory said the outage tool is one part of a seamless process between phone-lines, apps, and the website.

“It’s a modern way for the membership to report outages and be able to actually go onto a smart device or a computer,” Gregory said. “Go to our website link to our outage map, and they can actually, in real-time, view outages that are currently occurring on our system.”

Gregory said the tool will help dispatchers as well by notifying crews in the area.

“If we have a crew working in a certain area, and another outage populates, say within a mile or two of their location,” Gregory said. “Currently, that crew might drive all the way back to the office or another area 15 or 20 miles away and not even know that outage has occurred.”

The outage tool is part of a website redesign that took place in June.
