Pickett County’s August unemployment rate ranks second lowest in the state while Overton County stands fourth.
Every Upper Cumberland community saw unemployment fall in August, though rates still stand roughly three percent above the pre-covid levels. Unemployment rates also fell across the state to an average of 8.5 percent.
According to data from Tennessee Department of Labor, Pickett County’s July rate fell 1.1 percent to 5.2 percent while Overton County saw a 1.2 decrease in August to 5.5 percent.
Warren County saw the largest decrease among Upper Cumberland counties during August. Unemployment dropped 2.3 percent to 7.8 percent. Clay County saw its August numbers fall 2.1 percent to 7 percent.
