Underage Vaccinations Not Available At Overton Health Department

The Overton County Health Department does not have the means to vaccinate residents under 18 years of age.

The 1-C phase of COVID vaccinations begin next week, and expand to 16-year-olds with certain medical conditions. Nursing Director Megan Reeder said the county only has access to the Moderna vaccine, which is limited to adults.

“We will not be able to do the 16 or 17 year old, but we can definitely do the 18 and above,” Reeder said. “But we would help you find a location that does the Pfizer vaccine.”

Reeder said the Pfizer vaccine is licensed for the younger ages. Reeder said it is unlikely that the county will receive this vaccine or Johnson and Johnson in the future.

“You will have to look for a site that has Pfizer,” Reeder said. “Pfizer is licensed starting at age 16. Here at the Overton County Health Department what we currently have is the Moderna vaccine.”
