The Under The Sun online journal is having its first summer writing contest with a $500 prize.
Editor Martha Highers said writers have until July 31 to submit a 5,000 word or less creative non-fiction essay.
“We invite anyone in the Upper Cumberland to check out our journal online, and if anyone writes things that they think would be like what we publish, we’d just be happy for anyone to enter the contest,” Highers said.
Highers said there is a $15 submission fee. She said essays will be judged on creativity and quality.
Under The Sun has published articles for 25 years. Highers said the online journal provides a different way for writers to connect with each other during these uncertain times.
“We’re doing pretty well I think to stay alive,” Highers said. “There is some expense and there’s a lot of volunteer effort put into it. Really it’s a labor of love and art.”
