UCHRA has been forced to close the Youth Impact Center at Crossville’s Cumberland Mountain School.
UCHRA Executive Director Mark Farley said the home for troubled boys will be merged with the Indian Mound Farm home in Dekalb County. Farley said this decision was made from a cost savings perspective but there were also issues with the homes location.
“It always struggled up in Cumberland County, in that it’s located inside the city limits, right there close to Walmart,” Farley said. “It’s too enticing for those young men to run and get into trouble up there.”
UCHRA opened the 25-acre facility in 2009. There will now be two youth homes UCHRA operates, The Chance Residential Center for girls in Putnam County and Indian Mound Farm in Dekalb County.
