Upper Cumberland Electric will suspend service disconnections for non-payment effective immediately to help community members struggling financially.
UCEMC General Manager James Gregory said the board of directors believed this to be the right thing to do.
The utility will also waive all late fees and penalties associated with non-payment of electric bills. Gregory said this does not mean individuals can just not pay the electric bill.
In addition, consumers can pay electric bills with credit cards and not pay the normal convenience fee. This change applies to electric charges under $1,000.
Lobbies at all UCEMC offices remain closed. Members may continue to pay bills and apply for new service at the drive-thru windows.
