The 2020 Presidential Election brought record voter turn out across the United States and around the Upper Cumberland.
Overton County Election Administrator Craig Story said he believes the county is in all time record territory with over 10,000 residents voting. That’s a 19 percent increase from four years ago.
In an even larger increase, Putnam County Election Commission Administrator Michele Honeycutt said with 11,718 voters on Tuesday, it is a 21 percent increase from 2016. Honeycutt said she believes the 2020 turnout could be a record breaker once all the votes are added up.
“Well, I think four years ago it was a pretty big number for us,” Honeycutt said. “So, this one is a little bit bigger, so I believe it’s going to be one of the highest.”
Pickett County Election Commission Administrator Tim Clark said they saw 2,943 voters, a 10 percent increase from 2016. However, Clark said he’s been told there have been larger turnouts for presidential elections. He was not sure of the year but was told they have received over 3,000 voters in a presidential election.
