UC Regional Airport Taking Next Steps On Fuel Farm Project

The Upper Cumberland Regional Airport has taken another step forward on its fuel farm project.

Airport Manager Dean Selby said the state issued a grant for a consultant to begin selecting the fuel tank process. Selby said this is the next step towards mitigating the airport’s in ground tanks.

“By doing this, we have gotten most of the infrastructure ready for new tanks,” Selby said. “Without having to go, oh my gosh we’ve got a leak that has contaminated ground or something else and we hope that we’ve caught it in time before there’s any leaks or anything.”

Selby said the plan is buy the new tanks by September, then getting them certified for use. He said the final phase of the fuel farm will be the removal of the over 25 year old in ground tanks.

“It works, it kind of means it drags the project out a little longer I guess,” Selby said. “But it has kept it in manageable bites. So I understand their process and what they’re trying to do and by making it where we just have little, incremental steps to getting it done.”

Selby said that in total, this is a four year process to set up the fuel farm. He said this has made funding the project easier for the airport.
