UC Airport Fuel Tank Farm Bids Available May 26

The Upper Cumberland Regional Airport will begin accepting bids for a fuel tank farm May 26.

Engineer Richard Rinks said the airport needs the tank farm to store extra fuel. Increased air traffic at the airport has increased the demand.

At least three stages are involved in this project process. Rinks said power lines will be installed to provide enough energy for the pumps. Then two fuel storage takes will be installed. A jet fuel storage tank for jet and corporate aircraft will be one of the tanks installed. Rinks said the other will be an AV gas tank for 100 low lead reciprocating engines.

Rinks said aviation is in a state of flux, and companies are experiencing layoffs. He said some may decide to fly their own planes instead of riding commercial flights.

The first phase of the project should complete by the end of the year, Rinks said.
