TWRA Stresses Safety for Gun Deer Hunting Season

TWRA officials stress safety concerns in light of Gun Deer Hunting season opening Saturday.

“The number one thing that we want all of our hunters out there doing is to stay safe. Practice that gun safety that you learned through hunter education. Wear your 500 inches of blaze orange,” Barnes said. “And especially practice tree-stand safety. Wear your harness and of course let folks know where you are going and if you have a time you plan on being home.”

Barnes said each year the TWRA sees a number of tree stand-related injuries.

“Primarily we see when hunters are not wearing their harnesses and when they are climbing in the stand or out of the stand,” Barnes said. “Just sometimes we are in a rush just looking to get up into that stand before sunrise and be ready for the kick off of the season.”

Barnes said TWRA hopes to keep the injury count at 0 this season.
