Two people died during a Sunday morning tractor trailer crash in Cumberland County.
The single-vehicle accident happened on Interstate 40 at 7:54 a.m.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol identified the deceased as 31-year-old Mutasim Abdelrahman of Garden City, Kansas and 39-year-old Robert William Newton of Branson, Missouri.
A THP crash report said Abdelrahman was driving East when the semi went off the left side of the roadway and across the median. The vehicle overturned before crossing the westbound lane and traveling down an embankment. The semi came to a final rest on its side after striking several trees.
The report did not list drugs or alcohol as a potential factor in the crash. Newton was not wearing a seatbelt.
