Two DeKalb Schools Placed On Soft Lock Down Wednesday

A soft lock down occurred at two DeKalb County elementary schools Wednesday afternoon.

DeKalb County Director of Schools Patrick Cripps said he implemented the safety measure at Northside and Smithville Elementary.

“We had a robbery in our town and the business it took place at is located between two of our elementary schools,” Cripps said. “To take a precaution, we put both schools on soft lock down.”

Cripps said classes remained in session during the lock down with extra patrols taking place at each school.

“I would like to thank our local law enforcement, faculty, and staff,” Cripps said. “They did good work in keeping our schools safe and getting our children transported back to their homes.”

Smithville Police have not released any details about the alleged crime at this time.
