The Appalachian Center for Craft returns for its 24th Celebration of Craft this Saturday.
Programs Manager Gail Gentry said that the event originally began as a celebration that the craft center had been saved from closing its doors. She said that since then, it has evolved into a celebration of everything the craft center has become especially after the pandemic.
“We love that everyone can come back up here again,” Gentry said. “It makes our campus vibrant and it shows that the community is supported and supports us at the same time.”
Gentry said that visitors can experience live music, peruse the students’ art, participate in hands-on crafts, and watch demonstrations for this like blacksmithing or glassblowing. She said that the event is free to all who want to attend.
Gentry said that though the event is free, visitors have the opportunity to purchase things from the student store or original works. Gentry said that through the event, they hope to showcase just what they have to offer.
“We want everyone to see what happens at the craft center,” Gentry said. “The talent that is out here with our artisan residents, our faculty members and our students. We want people to know that this is an accessible campus. Our gallery is open every day of the week from 10-5 and Sunday from noon to 5, so people can come up there anytime. We have four exhibition spaces that they can visit during those times, so it’s accessible, it’s open to the public. People can take workshops up here, we have a bachelor of fine arts, it’s just an amazing space so come on up and visit us.”
