Tennessee Tech currently fundraising for scholarships and programs in a yearly initiative directly impacting students.
Alumni Center Assistant Director Kelly Chambers said each year, the “I ❤️ Tech students” program begins on February 14th. Chambers said over the next six weeks, the university invites the community to show its love for students.
“We really focus on putting students first,” Chambers said. “So it’s areas that impact students directly, and this year we asked the dean of each college to identify an area in their college that they thought would help students. So each dean identified a couple of areas that could really benefit from private support.”
Chambers said funding will supplement services such as the university food pantry, scholarships and student travel funds for professional development.
“Students learn a lot in the classroom, but there are so many other opportunities outside of the classroom that students can have, but those field trips cost money,” Chambers said. “There is a student travel fund in two different colleges that the dean is pushing to give students experiences outside of Tech and Cookeville.”
Chambers said funding also can help students that face unforeseen circumstances. Chambers said the university has set its goal to raise $100,000. Chambers said donors have already donated over $30,000.
