Trial Date Set For Case Involving Former Smithville Mayor

A judge has set a trial date for a theft case involving Smithville’s former Mayor and his son.

73-year-old Jimmy Poss faces charges of official misconduct and theft after hiring his son to work for the Smithville golf course and swimming pool in September 2017 without permission from the Board of Aldermen. Anthony Poss also faces one count of theft over $2,500 in the case.

The two were indicted by a grand jury and booked into the DeKalb County Jail in July 2018. A State Comptroller report said Anthony Poss received $8,100 over a six-month period to work at the city golf course.

Judge Wesley Bray set a March 31st trial date during a court hearing on Monday.
