A routine traffic stop led to the drug-related arrest of a Rickman man Saturday.
Putnam County authorities charged 33-year-old Joe Murphy with criminal impersonation and possession of methamphetamine.
Officials first made contact with Murphy near 6070 Dodson Branch Highway. The patrol vehicle had to swerve to avoid a white Dodge diesel coming from the opposite lane.
After the Dodge almost collided with the patrol vehicle, the officer turned around and initiated a traffic stop.
Upon making contact with the driver, Murphy gave another person’s license.
Once detained and placed in the patrol vehicle, officials noticed a glass pipe wrapped in a paper towel in the front center floorboard of the Dodge.
A further search revealed approximately 2.28 ounces of a white crystalline substance believed to be methamphetamine. Arrest warrants indicate that officials also found $980.00 in cash, approximately 20 needles and a scale.
Authorities booked Murphy into the Putnam County Jail on a $25,000 bond. Murphy has since posted bail.
