Traffic Signal Coming To Neal Street Intersection

A shipment issue has delayed the installation of a new traffic signal on Cookeville’s Neal Street.

Public Works Director Greg Brown said he had planned to have the project completed by now.

“We had some problems getting an order placed, and when we finally got it they just shipped half of the mast arms and poles,” Brown said. “We’ve got the foundations and part of that installed, but we’re just having to wait for the pole and mast arms to finish the installation.”

The city will install the light at the intersection of Perimeter Park Drive and Salem Church Road. Brown said Cookeville City Council approved the project about a year ago after receiving a number of requests.

“We always check the warrants (for installing a traffic signal) to see if it meets any of them,” Brown said. “It’s finally met one of the traffic volume warrants, so we decided to go ahead and get one installed there.”

Brown said he’s hoping to have the project completed by the end of the year.

“There’s mainly one manufacture in the whole country for these things,” Brown said. “We’re sort of limited because we can’t just go to another supplier and pick one out.”

Brown said the light should reduce traffic volumes in the area.
