Today In The Upper Cumberland: Higher Education Costs

Tennessee Tech President Phillip Oldham discusses the costs of higher education.

A public university education used to be considered one of America’s great bargains. That has changed. Higher education scholars point to the 1980s as the start of the change when education became a hot button issue politically as a way to encourage growth. That led to some universities over-extending themselves. Fast forward to the economic downturn starting in 2007 where man political leaders saw higher education as a place to save money, and get the budget balanced. So where do we stand today with funding of higher education? Not just in Tennessee, but around the nation. We explore that issue with Tennessee Tech President Phillip Oldham.
