The Tennessee Tech Executive Committee voted Tuesday to recommend Trudy Harper as the next Chair of the Board of Trustees.
Current Chair Tom Jones said Harper would serve the board well.
“It certainly helps to be local or pseudo-local and have time to devote to it. Certainly, don’t want to pre-judge any candidates. But Trudy was the vice chair,” Jones said. “I think she would be a good second chair. I don’t want to make that nomination because I don’t think that should come from the chair.”
Jones and three other board members’ terms will expire this summer. Jones said he is still eligible for reappointment.
“I don’t think I should continue. I think it should be doing it. I just think its kind of like term limits,” Jones said. “But the other thing is, I do feel like there is better continuity for the next chair coming from the Executive Committee.”
Executive Committee Member Johnny Stites said most boards receive recommendations from the executive committee.
“We don’t have to make a nomination, but I think it should come from the Executive Committee,” Stites said. “I would like us as a committee to make the nomination and send it to the full board.”
Teresa Vanhooser, Johnny Stites, and Rhendona Rose are all eligible for reappointment to the board this summer.
