The Tennessee Highway Patrol on Wednesday arrested a convicted sex offender from Texas.
State Troopers came in contact with 48-year-old Byron Dion Wheeler during a traffic stop on Interstate 40 in Putnam County. A records check found that the Gregg County Sheriff’s Office had issued warrants against Wheeler for a probation violation.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety website, Wheeler registered as a sex offender after his 1992 conviction for burglary habitation. Department of Public Safety troopers arrested Wheeler in 2017 for failing to register as a sex offender.
Wheeler does not have a bond, but the warrant states he will be extradited in the near future.
