Tech President Sees Campus Protocol Leading To Successful Spring

Tennessee Tech President Phil Oldham said he’s seeing the campus get off to a more active start than in the Fall.

Oldham said he’s pleased to see students continuing to follow COVID guidelines, even noticing more students wearing masks outside on campus.

“Through all that hard work we’ve been able to keep our case counts down to less than half of a percent on a daily average,” Oldham said. “It’s gone really well.”

Oldham said to an extent the new normal is beginning to feel like normal around the campus. He said students who are in-person are doing what they know it takes to keep things going this Spring.

“Very seldom does anybody have to reminded about a face mask anymore,” Oldham said. “In fact, I see more and more students just wearing face masks even outside when they’re walking around campus. Even though that’s not required, we haven’t mandated that. I think there’s a comfort level that has been achieved and everybody realized it’s not what we prefer but we can do this.”

Oldham said students are finding ways to feel normal, during the new normal.

“We can still pursue an education and get to see our friends, and all that but stay safe,” Oldham said. “I’m really proud of this campus.”

Oldham said there are still students on a hybrid schedule and learning virtually. Although, he said there are a lot of students on campus this semester.
