Tech Offering Free Halloween Themed STEM Lab

Kids can get hands on with Halloween this Friday at the Millard Oakley STEM Center for its Creepy Crawly Lab.

Outreach Coordinator Carlos Galindo said the lab is geared for 3rd through 8th graders, with changing themes. Galindo said this makes sure kids have something new to do every time they come.

“There’s hands-on STEM activities all throughout the STEM Center,” Galindo said. “From making slime to coding but everything is hands-on. At the STEM Center we also have a demonstration of an autonomous vehicle.”

Galindo said that all the activities will be Halloween themed. He said kids do not need any experience with STEM to participate.

Galindo said that parents can register online or when they arrive. He said the Creepy Crawly Lab is from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM and families can come and go as they please.

“The great thing about these events are they are activities that all the kids can do and have fun and have fun doing here at the STEM Center,” Galindo said. “They design these activities thinking about how the kids are going to enjoy it. So any type of kid would enjoy coming.”

He said that kids will complete activities and get their passport stamped so that when they’re ready to leave it can be redeemed for prizes. He said when families come for the first time, they can see the change in kids from start to finish.

“You’ll see them running around and wanting to go to the next station,” Galindo said. “Maybe at the beginning with everything going on it might be a little overwhelming but after that they’re just having a good time.”

He said that parents will need to be able to stay with their kids during the lab. Galindo said that masks will be required but are made available at the door.
