Tech Gets $300K To Help With Rural Economic Rebound

The US Department of Commerce’ Economic Development Administration awarded a $300,000 CARES Act grant to Tennessee Tech to assist in regional economic development.

“We are pleased to make this investment in Tennessee Technological University’s Tennessee Center for Rural Innovation to respond to coronavirus in the rural Upper Cumberland region of Tennessee,” Commerce Representative Dana Gartzke said.

The money will be used to implement a comprehensive approach to technical assistance, student internships, commercialization and entrepreneurship support. Research, workforce development, and other outreach efforts are also included.

Tennessee Tech is one of 850 organizations to receive grants through the CARES Act. The act provided some $1.5 billion in economic development assistance programs.

The Department Of Commerce made the announcement Friday.
