Tech Enrollment Similar To Last Year

Tennessee Tech’s enrollment remains about the same as last year.

President Phil Oldham said the university has an enrollment census headcount of 10,140.

“We graduated over 2,500 students last year. That was another record for us,” Oldham said. “In order to maintain a pretty stable enrollment, that meant we had to bring in an additional 2,500 students to replace those who graduated. That’s exactly what we did. We brought in just over 1,700 new first-time freshmen and about 800 transfer students.”

Oldham said the university met all budget expectations. Fall revenues came in $998,000 higher than July budget estimates. That’s an additional $349,500 in in-state tuition and an extra $648,500 in out-of-state tuition.

“We really believe that we are probably at an inflection point now, where we will start seeing enrollments grow back up,” Oldham said. “Some of that is because we had a couple years of small freshmen classes. Those bubble years are sort of percolating through the system now and we’ve been bringing in slightly larger freshmen classes the last couple of years. If we continue that trend, we should start to see some of the enrollment grow back.”

Oldham provided the enrollment numbers during last week’s TTU Board of Trustees meeting.
