Tech Could Receive $110 Million Under Governor’s Budget

Tennessee Tech could receive $110 million in funding.

The amount comes from Governor Bill Lee’s proposed 2020-2021 budget. The budget includes $64 million for Tech’s annual appropriation, and $48 million in capital appropriations.

President Phil Oldham said he’s thankful for the hard work of faculty and staff.

“Governor Lee’s proposed budget is another good year of increased state support for what we are doing here at Tech, and for the outcomes we produce for the state,” Oldham said.

The budget would include a $1.35 million salary pool, $500,000 for Tech’s Cybersecurity Education, Research and Outreach Center, $43.5 million for the new engineering building, and $5.1 million for repairs and maintenance.

The state appropriation is more than an 18 percent increase from Tech’s 2018-2019 appropriation, the highest change among public universities in Tennessee.

“We want to thank the state for their continued support of what we are doing at Tech to serve all of Tennessee,” Oldham said.

Lee’s budget proposal will move to the Tennessee General Assembly for approval.
